A Lock & Lock Question ?

My Question ..

I bought a box of brown sugar a while ago and transferred

its contents into a L&L container. The BB Date on the box

was May 12, 2017. In your opinion do you think the sugar

is still good to use? (It is now July 23, 2017) ..

I don't like to use things after the expiration date, though some things do last longer.

I think it's risky and would discard it. You know some spices actually form parasites after awhile and can make you very ill. Just sayin.........

I've been baking for roughly 1,000 years. I don't pay attention to the sell by dates on sugar. If it's still soft enough to use, I wouldn't worry about it. Of course I'm not the FDA, but I can't imagine a problem unless it was stored in unusual conditions - like a very hot place, for instance.

I'm old enough to remember when nothing had an expiration date! And I haven't expired yet from eating anything

I'm not a real date conscious person; neither are my family.

If the milk sours, I use it up by making biscuits or cornbread. I still need to use up 2 blocks of cream cheese I bought last year for Christmas.

We just finished a lasagna made with cottage cheese that expired months ago. It was unopened, store upside down in the fridge, and tasted as good as if I'd just bought it that day. I know people who seem to live by the dates on their food.

If this were milk, I would not use it. However sugar, you can use it 2 years after the expiration date.

Anything stored in Lock 'n Lock lasts much longer than the expiration date - as it's air tight. Checking how something looks and smells tells me when to toss it. But - I do check expiration dates -- and I keep lots of food in the freezer.

I have had lock 'n lock for years and I would totally agree with this on the basis of real usage.

Of course the sugar is still good to use. There's nothing in sugar that would spoil. It might harden and be difficult to use, but not spoiled.

Same here. I can't believe even a box of baking soda has an expiration date now. On some things I use my own judgment especially if it is within a couple of months. I would use the brown sugar referred to in the other post.
