I thought these were supposed to be microwave, oven, dishwasher and freezer safe? Apparently, they are not, considering I was warning up some French fries, for 30 seconds, in an 1100 watt microwave, and I heard the plate snap. I would consider this information from Temptations as false advertising.

Have you cared for them in accordance with instructions? For example, they say you shoudn't let them soak in water, because the bottom - which is unglazed - may absorb water and be prone to breaking when heated.

I thought I read somewhere that ceramic baking dishes/casseroles need to be completely covered on the bottom with food. French fries are probably better cooked in a metal pan.

Understood, but the point is that ceramic doesn't do well in a microwave when the bottom is not covered with something moist. I think the same principle applies if one were to place an empty ceramic coffee mug in the microwave. It would probably crack, because microwaves work by stirring up molecules in liquid. At least this is what I have always understood to be true. Maybe not.

This is a product line that is simply not properly fired. That is one of the main reasons they have problems with cracking, breaking, crazing, etc.

If you like the items, although they really are quite aesthetically unappealing but my taste is probably pretty boring, you will be best served to not put them into ANY kind of heat source and just still hope for the best.

I have a decorative Temp-tations bowl--after it was received I washed it according to instructions and put it in my cabinet. I have a microwave bowl that I pop popcorn in with a tablespoon of Olive Oil, I popped my popcorn and put it in a decorative Temp-tations bowl, after the popcorn was eaten I washed the bowl, by hand according to instructions and did NOT let it soak, and guess what the bowl cracked....Now come on the popcorn wasnt even that hot, neither was the dish water...and the second time it was washed according to instructions and NEVER let it soak! Since it had been over 30 days....couldnt return it!

I have only older TT - nothing newer than 7 years ago when we moved to florida, someone gave me the seashell set as a housewarming gift. I have not had any of the problems you all describe and I put my TT in the top shelf of the dishwasher all the time. Clearly, the older TT products were manufactured better.
