Grocery Shopping - Yay or Nay?

Does this ever happen to you? Today I stopped by Trader Joe's, since I was in the area, to get oatmeal. $50 later, I'm at the checkout, and laughing to myself as the checker asks me if I found everything I was looking for. Oh yes, I did, thank you!

I didn't buy any impulse items (except for frozen black bean enchiladas that they had samples out for and were delicious; good for nights when I don't want to cook or have something in the freezer that I have cooked), but nothing I bought was an immediate need and nothing will go to waste, but most of the items I already had at home.

I admit it, I love grocery stores and grocery shopping. Love to see whats new, and try new things. Most of my friends hate grocery shopping, but I love it.

@Caligurll I am a coupon Queen, so I love grocery shopping to see what the grand total of savings for each trip is, my best so far is $98.64 in savings at Target, that excites me, and NO I do not have much of a life, LOL!

WOW! I am very impressed! I have a Target debit card and I am very happy with my 5% discount. Unfortunately, I'm not organized enough to use coupons effectively. They are usually at home while I'm at the grocery store/Target, @CareBears

Grocery shopping has lost its thrill for me. Part of it is coming up with a meal plan and a list though. Back 90 million years when I was a newlywed, I loved the whole process except for putting the groceries away.

@tansy I keep hoping it will lose the thrill for me, but so far not so much. I haven't met a grocery store yet that I haven't found something to love about it.

If I go into a store for one item I will go up and down most of the isles. For me there is no such thing as running in for one item--must search/explore entire store.

Did you ever notice the looks on the people at the grocery store? Wow, are they hostile! I don't shop too much anymore but always thought it was the most miserable place to go because of how everyone looked. OTOH, I'm always pleasant.

@wishmoon Now that you mention it, yes, you are right, a lot of people in the grocery stores don't look like they want to be there. Same here, I always try to be pleasant too.

It is one of my least favorite things to do!

I always feel like where is the butler to unload after I've spent all this time going up and down the isles! womanlol:

My mother on the other hand loves to go and will go every day, to several!

But lately, I find I don't mind it as much if I take my time and I'm always quite proud of myself for getting it done.

Though sometimes I will wait til there is almost nothing left in the refrigerator or cabinets, before I go again.

I also don't like washing produce; that is a chore to me, and I really don't think cooking is thrilling at all.

Even that I don't mind. Although I hate putting away laundry, although I like doing laundry and don't mind folding it, when I am ready to fold it.

Boy my trip to the grocery store today was a "double whammy" where to start:

My GD & son are coming tomorrow for the week. My GD is allowed healthy foods , certain cereal, etc. no problem BUT "organic" and fruits/Veg are outrageously priced! I normally spend no more than $60/week (just 2 of us) - cashier today who I know well said "I hate to tell you the total for fear

you'll keel over in my line!" I said oh it can't be that bad ....wrong!!! We both had a good chuckle as my "hand was shaking" paying😉😱🙀

I had my deli # 88 and there were others waiting...no problem but they just put their cart anywhere & no one can get by NOR do they hear, clerk calling #s and no answer!

Here comes this young girl trying to get thru and says to this one older guy "can you move I'm trying to get thru?" No answer - then she turned to me "Aren't you going to move?" What? I said to her "excuse me but I'm standing here my cart no where in your path." She said " move I'm on my lunch hour not like you "old people" who have nothing to do all day" -- oh did I mention phone to her ear while yelling at us.

Needless to say - I had some "choice" words & told her she was rude...she walked away and bumped right into the cracker display...oh my, I was rude I laughed at her!

I am always amazed at some people old & young who have no respect for others!

(and yes @Caligurll i go into a grocery store with a list but always come out with more!)

I love to grocery shop too! Even when I worked full time, I still enjoyed my trip to the grocery after work.

I will add that I do generally shop during off hours. Not sure how I would feel if I could only go during peak times. I am sure I wouldn't enjoy it as much.
