If the chicken won't fit you can spatchcock it or remove the backbone so you can open it up & flatten it out. If you search Jamie Oliver Spatchcock chicken he shows on his site how it's done with pics.

Good morning friends! I was looking for the answer to this question online when I realized that you all would be the absolute best to ask!

I want to do a whole chicken in my 5.3 qt Cook's Essentials air fryer. Any suggestions on what size chicken to get? I searched the forums and saw one woman post that she was going to do a 4 lb chicken in her 5.3 qt Paula Deen air fryer, but the shape of the machine looked different than mine. I suppose I could measure my air fryer and then break out my measuring tape and measure chickens at the grocery store, but thought I would ask you before going to the store and looking like a wack job.

TIA!!

I found a couple of recipes for a 5 lb chicken in a 5.3qt air-fryer. A chicken is fairly easy to reshape to make fit your pan or basket.

Thanks for the reply!!

I was worried about it being too tall to fit in. I did a bone-in turkey breast at Thanksgiving and it was too tall. I had to cut the back out to make it fit. It was so delicious! Can't wait to do a chicken.

I have not done a whole chicken yet, but I checked my Meredith Laurence "Air Fry Everything" cookbook. It is written for all AFs, and there is a table she includes that gives directions for a 6.5 lb chicken at 360 degrees for 75 minutes flipping halfway through cooking time.

There is a way you can check this out. Go with your gut instinct of using a four pounder.....and while the chicken is shrink wrapped, pop it in the basket. If it's a tight fit and air can't circulate, you need to go smaller

I really do like her book because she has great recipes and this is worth it. I have many AF cookbooks, and this I count as one of the better ones. I also really like my Todd English AF book.

I haven't been on the HSN boards in awhile, but you might find something there. Pinterest is always great and you can download operating instructions and recipe booklets for any brand being sold on TV for free.

Poodlepet2

Nightowlz, wow! How did chicken pornography -full frontal nudity-escape the censorship??? I saw that picture and the way that bird is posed looks downright voluptuous!

I see things differently, but I immediately thought of Kim Kardashian with those ample thighs, clinched in waist and perky bodacious tatas!

Poodlepet2
