Not to pile-on, but I agree with the others that, if there is any way possible, I'd put it in the oven.

Hope it comes out great, whatever you decide. That's a big on! I have one that I just pulled out of the freezer and it's 7-something pounds. That's about all I can handle. hehe

I often make a huge pot of split pea soup with the bone and some of the ham left on it. Another favorite for me is a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. For this I enjoy either Swiss cheese or Monterey Jack. I just had one last night, actually, from some I had packaged (vac sealed of course) from the last ham I made. yum!

I have a bone-in 10 lb. ham that's fully cooked, but will need to be heated for Christmas dinner. I'd like to heat it in my slow cooker, but don't know how long I should do it. The instructions for cooking in a conventional oven says 10 to 15 min/lb. Also, because it a tad bigger than the slow cooker, the cover doesn't fit snuggly. I was thinking of covering the slow cooker tightly with foil. Would that be OK. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I usually buy Honey Baked Hams and the directions say to serve it at room temperature, so I just put it on a platter and let it sit out a little before I serve it. If you really want it to be hot, I would either put it in the over but for only a short time, maybe 10 minutes or heat it in the microwave for a few minutes. I would never put it in a slow cooker, it's already cooked.

To be at its best, a ham should be heated/warmed enough for the fat in it to start running and making it jucy. I would put something else in the crock pot and the ham in the oven. Heat/bake the rolls after the ham comes out and they wil be done as you carve it.

I have put my ham in my crockpot. It usually is too big and i cover it tightly with heavy duty aluminum foil. I usually put it on low for 2 hours. I cover the top with the glaze that comes with or make my own with brown sugar and mustard just tll pasty. One suggestion tho..do not buy a spiral cut ham if youre going to put it in the crockpot, it will fall apart. Also this will be moist. it is very delicious this way tho

Either way, make sure you have it cut side down when you start roasting it so the juices roll towards the cut, which is where it will leak juice if you have that part exposed. The hams are best gently warmed to melt the fat and hydrate the meat, so baking/cooking isn't required. I would do it in the oven with a beer or pineapple juice or coke/dr. pepper. All three make a great ham.

We celebrated Christmas with the family last weekend. I got a Honeybaked Ham. It specifically says on the instructions for best results to serve at room temperature. It also says that if you do want to warm it, just warm a few slices at a time. They really don't recommend warming at all. My mom always served our ham at room temperature so I do the same. Everyone went ga-ga over my Christmas ham. It sure was yummy!

Did mine in slow cooker last year. Best ham I ever cooked. I get the spiral sliced and place it face down in the slow cooker with some maple syrup mixed with a little water poured over. On low for about 2 to 3 hours. Good Lord it's tender, moist and delicious.

You know what really freaks me out about some holiday hams, are the canned hams. LIke the one used in the movie Christmas with the Cranks. Ham in a tin....that freaks this country girl out...give me a real hog, fresh kill or smoked every day over a moulded, tin shaped ham. That is scary! I'm still a bit freaked by canned pumpkin. We have always grown our own pumpkins for our pies, so I was grown before I even knew canned pumpkin existed let alone what you do with it. I asked a lady in the grocery store, and she looked at me like I was crazy and said pie. She asked what I used, so I told her pumpkins from the garden. I guess growing up poor farmers was a privileged after all. We knew exactly where 90% or more of our food came from....heck some of it even had names.
