When you watch the video, it definitely shows at least 2 with filling and he even talks about how he mixed it by hand-one had an apple/cranberry filling.

They did describe the density (more like a dense poundcake, more dense they said than cakes in the US)and the appeal was supposed to be the butter used in the UK that gave a rich flavor or something.(because their cows like to eat grass he said)

You know, the only thing I can think of is take for example British scones that are not really sweet. I think they are dry and like who would want to eat them?

Maybe the British have a different sense of what tastes good as far as cupcakes and desserts go.

They did look dense enough to hold up all the icing that also looked very dense.

I can see why you thought they were disappointing.

Did anyone order these? In all my 27 years with QVC, this takes the cake ( or cupcake ). These arrived today, and they were thawed, I took a bite, and they are awful. They are so dry, I could hardly swallow! They were suppose to have a little filling I thought? The are small, flat with more icing than cupcake. The cupcake itself was maybe 1.5 inches tall with about an inch of frosting just in the center. No filling or flavor. I think this is the largest order the ever had, and they ran out of batter, and over baked them. They are suppose to be dense, not fluffy cupcakes. But there is a difference between a heavy, dense cake and just plain dry.

anyone who bought them could you let me know how you liked them. I would leave a review, but the are not available to even view or leave a review. I called CS and they refunded money, but i would rather have a cupcake. Sniff. What a waste of energy on someones behalf, and a waste of money. I don't mind paying when they are good, but these left me whining. Whaaaaa!

Do you think they're really made in the UK, then shipped to the US? That just sounds like a bad idea. No wonder they were dry. I could tell from the video that about half of each cupcake was icing. I'm sure it's very rich and delicious but who needs it.

The British absolutely do have a different sense of taste.

Many of their "sweets" are not very sweet and a bit on the dry side, made for dunking in tea & coffee.

It's definitely a different experience.

And we can get good butter here, they don't have the franchise on grass fed cows.

Same with German "sweets". I used to live next door to a woman born & raised in Germany. She made the most wonderful breakfast "sweets" but they were more like a sweet bread than the sugary sweet rolls we generally find here. Her items were not dry, however.

@on the bay wrote:

My son is currently working on a movie set in London.

He says the food is TERRIBLE (we aren't crazy about the food in Canada either - except for butter tarts!).

Good thing QVC will give you a refund with no problem.

Make sure to ask for your money back - so they will drop this line and other people won't be disappointed.

We were there in the late 90's and I almost starved to death. I stuck with bread and butter and when I saw a McDonald's I ran for the door. LOL

We went into a restaurent and waited for the waitress she never came to our table, we just got up and left. Later on somebody told us your suppose to place your order at the bar counter. 'crisps' is what we call chips. Cookies, I forget what they call 'em over there. Enjoyed the trip and all, but, good place to lose wgt.

In regards to the dense texture. They are dense with larger "pores", lol! It is not a fine, dense crumb like maybe a sara lee original pound cake. I love meaty, dense cupcakes. But these were a larger pore, dense, but dry....like over cooked or too much flour? You can smell the butter when you get the cake about a foot from mouth, so yes the butter flavor was there. The frosting is a grainy lightly sweet frosting. Not real bad. I had 2 issues, the over dryess, and lack of flavor. If you blind folded yourself and took a bite of each one you would not know chocolate from the tea flavor or the tea flavor from vanilla,

yes, they are small. But in all fairness they said they were not large, although on tv they looked larger in the vendors hand than in person. They also are flat, they do not rise over the top of cupcake liner.

i use irish butter, and we can get that flavor here. Strauss butter at a higher fat content and boy the unsalted in srausss is so flavorful and creamy.

the reason I bought these? The sticky toffee, and the tea flavor hooked me. But I will say here and now...that was no sticky toffee. Good grief, costco has sticky toffee cake that would shame the heck out of any one claiming sticky toffee

yes the english do have a blander pallette than we do in our cuisine. IMO...They arent sugary in their pastry, as I think they use lots of sugar in tea, and eat lots of jam. That is their sweet fix. Breakfast is often toast, very dry, with butter and jam.

I love less sweet pastries myself. These cupcakes were just not good in the scheme of things. I was thankful to qvc for the refund. I was really embarressed to ask for it, but I have been shopping there 28 years and this is the second time I have everasked for money back rather than replacement. The other item was this mile high aplle pie from the qvc 50/50 tour. They literally placed pie in pastry box and mailed in bigger box. No packaging like they have today. Omg, it was applesauce when i got it.

Funny how different people's experiences are. After 20 years of living there (my DH is a Brit) and then coming back to the U.S., I really miss the excellent and diverse restaurants we always ate in. We were spoiled for choice and each one offered fresh vegetables and delicious entrees. None of the boring, same-old chain restaurant fare that we get here.

Also, many cafes specialized in wonderful homemade cakes and pastries. They weren't dry at all. I do agree that many things here are far too sweet for my taste now.

And oddly enough, when we first came back my DH complained about the "sugar" in our butter (and just about every other prepared food)! I explained that there was no sugar in the butter, but clearly it tasted much sweeter to him. Me? I'm used to it.

It is true that American food (processed) has a lot of sugar in it, that you don't get in European food. Hence, the ongoing problem with obesity and sugar addiction.
