I don't know anyone that uses Blue Apron but I personally know 3 different people who use Plated. They are very impressed. I looked at the website and most of it looked very good. My DH would be the problem with it.

On the financial side, there's lots of IPO talk wI Blue Apron.

Wonder if it would be a good investment?

Never used it, but I see how the idea could benefit

many people/families who have lots of disposable income.

I have a friend that uses them each week and has for about a year. With her long hours at work, workout schedule and hungry husband--the finds them super easy and delicious! The only negative she has shared is that some of the recipes are a bit involved and time consuming.... But in the end she loves the quality and convenience!!

Seems like a decent price -- $75 + S/H for 12 meals. I wonder how much food is actually included. However many supermarkets (like Wegmans) now sell prepared meals; they might be cheaper. That's a risk they'd have to mention in the IPO.

My son has a very busy schedule so he has found that Blue Apron is very convenient for him, plus he said the meals are very good. If he doesn't need a delivery a certain week it is very easy to have it not delivered that week. He orders directly from the Blue Apron and the shipping is always free.

I used Blue Apron for about 6 months, but you can't pick and choose meals (if you get the beef meal you have to get the chicken meal, etc)...so there always seemed to be one meal I didn't like. I switched to Home Chef and love it so much more...still $10 a plate.

Interesting article. Sounds like a tough business to be in. I wish one of these companies would offer super low carb options. I'm sure they'd be more expensive, but I'd pay it if they were good and did not skimp on the quantity of meat included.

We have been using Blue Apron for about a year. It works out so well. The food is so good. That we are sorry that there aren't more leftovers.

We will continue to use Blue Apron. And most of the meals are in the 500 calorie range. So not only does it taste good but you are eating well too.

I've used Blue Apron, Home Chef and another one several times. Blue Apron has good quality ingredients to make the meals but sometimes you don't like the meals. All you might have to add is the olive oil, salt and pepper. Packaging is good and I've never had anything come not still cold or frozen.

What could be a problem is if you forget to let them know you don't want the next delivery. What if you unexpectedly get too sick to think of cancelling? Which is why I'm considering cancelling again.

I don't think their beef is the best. I made one of their beef dishes this evening and it was kind of chewy.

We keep peppers, onions, celery, a few potatoes, rice, noodles, canned tomatoes and pasta, along with basic spices. With salsa, some mexican sauces and a few jars of pasta sauce we can make a world of dishes by simply adding protein of one type or another. Oh, and a couple of cans (CB CLOSE YOUR EARS) of the old Campbell's mushroom or chicken soup if we need a comfort casserole.

I think on the weekend about a couple of meals and leftovers, and we're in business for the week. We eat very healthy and I do not cook every night.

So if these are labor intensive, find a dozen recipes that are easy and healthy and you like, and cook a couple of times during the week, eat leftovers the other two nights and eat out of Friday. Weekend--grocery shop and prep ahead some of the chopping. And eat what you love.

I'm sure for some it would be great but I know how to cook so it would not be my choice to take what they dole out.

If you are in a decent sized city, look for local options of prepared meals. We have many that do this. They offer a variety in menu selection, allow some adjustments, and are really exceptionally good. I wouldn't think that it's that unusual to find. We have one here by a very popular chef. They aren't all that expensive either for no cooking.

About a year and a half ago, a friend of mine gifted a free week of Blue Apron to me. The food was okay, but the cooking process was tedious and time consuming. I love to cook, but I rarely follow recipes. I'm used to going at my own pace and creating meals quickly and efficiently, so his drawn out cooking process wasn't for me. Also, the food comes in a large cardboard box in which there is a heavy, insulated styrofoam box which contains the food along with freezer packs to keep the food cold during shipping. I try to keep green, but I'm not super picky about wasteful packaging. All I kept thinking when I unpacked the box was how anyone who is highly environmentally conscious would be FREAKING OUT if they saw how much waste was involved in the packaging. The cardboard box could be broken down and recycled, but not the styrofoam vessel and large slabs of freezer packs.
