the contracts thru the whirlpool when repair man comes to house does the repair and i pay nothing. my maytag dish washer has had a new motor, a control board, door latch, hose assemble. allmost a thousand dollars in repairs. all covered 100 percent. i could have just bought a new dishwasher but new appliances quit often have repairs early on the way they make them .

my maytag dishwasher contract had exspired and i called them to see how much for another 5 year contract. they told me it would 685.00. i said forget i can buy a new dishwasher for less than that. a few months later i got a letter from maytag with new prices and the price for a 5 year contract was just under 400.00 dollars so i did get it.

Service contracts are a huge ripoff. I never buy them and have never regretted it. If you do try to file a claim against one, they'll cite five million reasons why it's ineligible for reimbursement.

we have a "whole house" service contract via our gas and electric company. it covers all our major appliances......refrigerator, oven, stovetop, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer. the contract also covers our heat/ac unit, hot water heater, plumbing (with a $50 co-pay), and electrical (with a $50 copay). they also do a heating/ac inspection every year.

We have through Sears their Home Warranty Plan. It runs around $400 a year and If they come out I have to pay a fee of $ 60.00 except for the free furnace check once a year. They cover all my appliances. I so far have had the digtal parts for my ice maker replaced, my free furnace check and they couldn't repair my microwave so I got a new one. In my mind it has already paid for itself and I have the piece of mind that all my appliances are covered. They provide me with receipts and I can see if they came out just on their own what my cost would have been example my refirgerator parts would have been over two hundred dollars and the mircowave over three hundred dollars, and I notice advertisments for furnace check are running here between two and three hundred dollars, so happy we have it and are saving money. The problem with todays appliances is that they are not built to last like it was years ago. I bought my house new and purchased the warranty when the origianl warranty ran out, so my appliances that have needed repair are only seven years old. We have taken good care of them and really expected them to last like our old ones fifteen years or more One of the repairmen told me today most appliances need replacing every nine to ten years. I found that to be sad news most of us arn't told when we purchase them
