@Winifred wrote:

Snakes LOVE to sunbathe so yes and no if you can see them, etc. Sometimes they are all about and other times they are sneaky, hiding in the bushes or camouflage. Bottom line if you live near outside areas - by that I mean a lot of acreage with NO HOUSES - you will have snakes. We use to see them here - I am on over an acre and right by a Wash - but have not seen any in years and years. That does NOT mean I do not still look around. Course the advantage I have is no grass, etc drought played a number on me - boo hoo - just a weed here and there. There is still grass in the area where most of the roses are. Strange. Where Ricky is there are several outbuildings, trees, some bushes and they are in an area that has not been hit like we have been with no weeds/grass. They use to have a super green yard but no more - well so did I but I now mostly dirt - they do not. Am a bit jealous of them.

Got hot here this afternoon - went to Aldi's and bought a HUGE pizza. Never have had one that big - I LOVE their food. STocked up on meat, chicken breasts, boneless pork chops, other things and they had a $10 coupon off if you spent $40 - worked for me. So I spent $70 after my $10 coupon off - I really liked that. Their food is so good. The Aldi family started Trader Joe's - that's a big clue as to how good their food is. They have been here now about 3 or 4 months. Put the little girl up in the basket sitting up - she was thrilled - loved watching her face. The has been in grocery carts before but always in her car seat. We decided to take her in and sit her in the basket - yes we have one of those covers but I have not yet mastered the correct way to put it on. LOL. She was in heaven.

Yes, I did fix that pizza now to figure out what I will do with all that is left over - guess I will wrap it in foil - nothing else to do. Good dinner for sure.

Hope one and all had a great day. Also stocked up on their delicious cinnamon and rain bagels - best I have ever eaten.

@Winifred I have never heard of a rain bagel. As for the sn---s, we do have them here, being in the hills on over an acre, but havn't seen one in a while, and hope to not see. When I had many cats, they would find them.

Once, while I was on the phone, I looked out my slider and there was one of my cats with one in her mouth, shudder, shudder, well I screamed like crazy, went outside, and chased her until she dropped it.

Another time, I was watering some roses in the driveway, and another cat brought a dead, curled up one, and I dropped the hose and ran, lol. There were quite a few incidents with different types, I am sure all harmless, and the biggest were the gopher ones. When we bought this house, I did not know these were around.

I prefer furry critters.

I remember when I would push DD around in a cart, at the market and at the garden center, where she lost my car keys one day, probably dropped them into a potted plant, lol, but fortunately, I had a separate opener in my purse and a key in the car.

There is nothing like a baby's smile and laugh, the best ever.

These months sure come around quickly. Cooler last night - thank goodness - but today is suppose to bring even more humidity and heat. Will be again about 10 degrees cooler than previous days, except yesterday, but with the humidity, you cannot tell it is cooler.

Had Subway sandwiches for dinner - yesterday was super busy and I had no time for cooking. Church, Funeral, getting girls back to San Bernardino and by then it was after 6 when I finished up - Subway here I come! As usual their sandwiches were good!!

OK people, stop by and let us hear from you.

To celebrate the last day of July - Chinese take-out. There's hot and sour soup leftover, so I think to celebrate the start of August, there will be a soup and salad dinner although I haven't imagined that salad yet.

It's lovely here this AM also and I happily cooked my 5-minute oatmeal for breakfast. Not ready to truly cook yet in the heat to come, but two meals are on my cooler-weather mind -- meatloaf or baked chicken breast. Both make good eating for me when I'm here alone, tasty without work.

Hi! Not cooking. We are eating a lot of caprese salad with fresh basil, tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella and a lot of chicken salad with grapes, celery, and pecans. If I feel motivated, I cook pasta and make pasta chicken salad, minus the nuts. Sometimes my dinner is simply sweet corn from a farm stand--picked fresh that morning and simply microwaved for 3 minutes.. Thanks to QVC, we have Corky's ribs once in awhile, heated from frozen in the nuwave oven. Breakfast is usually a smoothie with yogurt, blueberries, and hemp seeds. We're easy!

Laura, what time is dinner? I will be there. Sounds good to me.

I too like your pix Preds - you ALWAYS come up with great greetings - much appreciated!

Nice morning and last night it was heavenly - two nights in a row - we got our Sou Cal nights back - hopefully for a while now. Through the many years of living here I learned to carry a jacket in the trunk of my car - it could be blazing hot during the day but once the sun started to set, you needed a coverup. Never use to run ACs at nighttime at all - that was a blessing as you sure need it during the daylight many days of the year and this summer, so far, has been the hottest I can remember on an on-going basis since I came here in 1960. We have always had hot spells but it has been HOT steady for some weeks now and in early May we had a heat attack, that is NOT normal.

Last night we had pizza rolls - just my speed but I had the two little ones ALL DAYS BY MYSELF yesterday with no break. They were angels until THEIR Grandma showed up last night to help and then Ricky went on the two year old behavior which he never does unless his Na Na shows up. Grrr! That's help?

Have a good day one and all and eat well and of course stay cool.

I just now found this thread.

Sunday, I cut seven long white eggplant, Gretel, as a side for pork tenderloin and roasted new potatoes. This eggplant is more like a zucchini. It gets soft very quickly, though zucchini takes longer, the end result is the same, so I have to saute on higher heat, then cover, for a bit, otherwise the slices turn to mush.

I also learned to soak the slices in salted water as they quickly turn brown, very ugly. It has a good flavor. I drizzled red wine vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, forgot the parsley, and salt and pepper over them when on the plate. I often use a vinaigrette on purple grilled eggplant slices, with herbs, garlic, and balsamic vinegar, which I eat on either french bread or lightly toasted french bread. DD makes paninis with it which she learned at a local deli, and adds mozzarella

Never too old to learn something new. I am an eggplant fanatic - LOVE it. Being born and raised in the south, like many other veggies we FRY it. I now peel it as I developed a breathing problem due to the peel, slice it dip it in batter and fry it in my trusty frying pan. I cook enough to last several days as I also love it on a sandwich - with gobs of mayo of course. OK, what can I say. Now the new thing?? Have never seen or heard of white eggplant. Huh? Someone explain please. Will catch your answer tomorrow hopefully. Good night one and all.
