Tony Little Bison Meat?

I noticed the other shopping channel is selling bison meat by Tony Little as their special of the day. It looks interesting. Has anyone tried it and if so what did you think?

It's supposed to be healthy & from the USA.

One of my local grocery store sells bison meat & I'm always tempted but I live alone & don't cook much.

We bought it years ago and it was good. With bison you need to cook it med rare, not well done.

I'm on the fence about it. Beef is added to many of the products. Reviews are mixed.

I noticed that beef is added to0, and Tony Little keeps saying it is an alternative to beef. That confuses the heck out of me. If something is an alternative to beef, then how can it have beef added as the second ingredient in the list?

The only thing I can think is that the beef is added to give it moisture? (I have no idea if bison is a "dry" meat as I know nothing about it and have never tried it.)

I like the idea of being "grass fed" with no hormones or antibiotics though.

I am on the fence as to whether I will order it.

@CatLoverDogsToo I've been looking at other bison sources online. None mentions added beef but it's much more expensive. I may buy it just to add some variety to our menu.

I wish I knew the % of beef that is added.

I called HSN they don't show the % of beef, but beef is the second ingredient.

I'm still considering it.

Ms Cat, DH & I have had bison burgers in the past and have no issues with buying it again. I typically do not eat beef mysefl but DH does but not very often. We've really staved off beef in the last 10 yrs or so.

Ms Mary, interesting note you make of Tony Little burgers and other buys in his todays' special (hsn) also contains beef. I've honestly never even thought of beef added to bison. As I indicated above, we have had bison in the past but I can guarantee I'll be more up on reading the label to see if beef is added. If so, I'm not sure I'd be buying it again.

If I'm buying bison I certainly expect it to be ALL bison without beef fillers. Wonder why Tony Little adds beef.

This being said, I looked at ALL of the ingredients in the today's special and I see that it specifically indicates 100% bison in the burgers only. So I suppose I'd say to you that if you want to try bison (only) I'm sure he has JUST bison burgers at hsn. You may want to pull up his list of bison products only on hsn to see.

I would recommend bison. We found it to be good in taste, not fatty at all, better for us too.

Tony's bison was a one and done for me. The hamburgers were good but did not like any of the sausage (he had breakfast sausage and something like hotdogs) those were not tasty at all.

I seriously would go and buy some bison meat first before you invest, mine was a TSV and it was about $120 at that time.

I was all in on the heath benefit, the fat content etc and that wore away quickly and weeks later I thought, now how am I going to get rid of all this. Yes, after 6 months of looking at it, it was trash time.

A pound here and there is fine but not "pounds" of it.

We tried it once. We like the burgers but did not like anything else we tried. I can get bison burgers at the local health food store. I was ticked when I found out all but the burgers had beef in it. I got a refund.

I think it's a little misleading how they say no hormones antibiotics next to the bison but say nothing about the beef. The products just say beef added. If you want hormone & antibiotic free I would only buy the bison burgers.

I assume they are adding beef to everything else so when it's cooked it's not drier & tougher then an old boot. Plus it's probably a lot cheaper to do that. Beef does have hormones /antibiotics in it.

They need to be more up-front about the beef being added. If the beef was grass-fed, no antibotics and no hormones they should mention it. Maybe then I'd try it.

DH does want to get it. He believes the beef is raised the same as the bison. So we are getting the 80 pc autoship

I don't have any problem ordering from a shopping channel. HSN is great with refunds.

If you like beef, you'll probably like bison--they're very similar. Bison seems to have a bit of a softer or "wetter' texture, so if you make something like meatballs or meatloaf, you may need to add extra binder to keep it together. That said, good quality bison is sold in quantity at CostCo, and I've seen it at many grocery stores. I probably wouldn't buy it from a shopping channel.

The bison 80pc came today.. Frozen solid and dry ice still in it.

I took out the bologna & breakfast strips to thaw.

The workout dvd came shrink wrapped between 2 pcs of cardboard, not even in an envelope. The personnal trainer card is refrigerator magnet.

I decided to order the 80 ct as well. I looked at my order summary on HSN and it states I will receive it in 3-5 days. It shipped on August 24th. I have never had food take that long to arrive from QVC. I hope mine arrives frozen. Let me know what you think after tasting it.

I was on autoship for a long time for TL's Bison. We loved it. I stopped when we had a drastic drop in income, and I wanted to lower all obligations we had at the time.

It always arrived frozen, and packaged well.

@CatLoverDogsToo I liked the breakfast strips very much. I warmed in frying pan until a little bit crisped. DH loved the bolonga. Tomorrow I will cook the meatballs.

I've never tried any of the Tony Little Bison products. The only reason to get them, to me, is if you want all that variety of products, because you can easily get bison burgers and bison steaks here (and in smaller quantity). I'd rather get those products fresh locally. Both Whole Foods and Costco have them. No beef added.

Hi Mary,

My daughter tried the bologna today and really liked it. We had the bison burgers for dinner tonight, they were quite good and there was no fat at all. I am going to try the breakfast strips tomorrow morning. Glad you like what you have tried so far.
