Opinions Please On Temp-tations Collapsible Baker's Rack

Hello all. I am currently watching a repeat of today's ITKWD of item # K-43072 named in the title of this topic.

I think it looks great and would provide great additional storage space in or near your kitchen, especially if you live in an apartment or a home with a small kitchen without enough cabinet space. Since I'm "vertically challenged" --okay, okay yes I'm short, and I have a bad back, storing stuff in cabinets over my head does not appeal to me. Color selection and style is quite attractive.

However, one issue I have is with the weight capacity of each shelf which is thirty pounds. I think that it would be too easy to accidentally overload a shelf and your rack would all of a sudden really become collapsible, and not in a good way.

For instance, I would use it to store large appliances such as a Kitchen Aid stand mixer or maybe large pieces of heavy cookware like Le Creuset Dutch ovens. These things can be very heavy on their own--the stand mixers run between 22 and 25 pounds alone. Plus I would also use it for easy access to to serving bowls, platters and trays. Imagine your lovely pieces of Temp-tations or other breakable service wear hitting the floor if you run just a few pounds over capacity.

I think for the price which is $200.00, I would want to have at least a fifty pound capacity on each shelf.

But I would really appreciate your opinions; good deal or pass, and why. Thanks.

The shipping charges are rather steep, but it's a large piece. I would worry about over-loading with the items you mentioned also. But it's very cute.

A few years ago I purchased a kitchen cart from the Q . It was plain black and needed no assembly, anyway I consider it one of my best purchases. I have a small kitchen, and it has been very helpful. I have my Ninja and two lock and lock containers got teabags and Splenda on the top shelf. The other shelves have cookbooks and extra items, and it keeps me organized. I don't think you'll be sorry if you order this. I agree the shipping is high.

I saw it & at first I thought it was cute but, then after looking at it for a while I thought it was too gaudy ... plus the shipping & handling was way too much!!!

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I hope to be moving soon to an apartment and would find something like this to be really helpful. I find that those high kitchen cabinets too dangerous especially when using a step ladder and trying to maintain your balance and retrieve heavy objects. Bet there's a lot of "I've fallen and I can't get up" scenarios out there because of that.

I think I'll pass and wait for something with a higher weight capacity for the shelves, at perhaps a better price, with lower shipping and handling.

Several people on a Temp-tations facebook group have complained that they had trouble with their rack.

Some of the wood was splintering and it wasn't holding up well.

I personally find it way too busy. By the time you put printed dishes on it, it looks like a hot mess (I've seen pictures online of this). I personally would find a better quality 'plain' one somewhere else.

@AKgirl2 I did quickly check HSN as you suggested and the only one I saw that was designated for the kitchen was half the price, with five flex pays AND free shipping! So much better, thanks a bunch. It's not as cute as the Temp-tations one but the wood block top holds 100 pounds and each of the remaining two shelves will hold 50 pounds. I think that's a much better deal and I could get two for the price of the other one. That's 400 pounds of capacity as opposed to their 120! Does that sound like what you have? Thanks a big bunch for your help @AKgirl2!

@missy1, Gee I don't know if it would need to be bolted. That's a great question I didn't even consider. Also, the hsn one is on wheels and the Temp-tations isn't. So, if I need to move it, then I'd have to clear it off and move it. Nuh-uh, not with my back and mobility issues. Thanks for pointing that out @missy1.

@ChazzyLady ~ I'm so glad you took a look and liked them, score with great price and free s/h!🙆 I have the folding kitchen island cart and the six tier multi shelf bookcase and really like them. The hardest part was truly getting them out of the box. All you have to do is open it up,

secure the latches and put on the wheels (optional). Just a FYI, check to see that the dimensions work for your needs, especially width and depth of shelves. Let me know how things work out.

Hey @AKgirl2, the one I saw was the Origami Folding Kitchen Island Cart -- 486-702. It comes in three colors: black, red, and white. Dimensions are 25-1/2" long, 20" wide and 36-1/4" high with casters. Is that yours? From looking at it, it looks like the length given is actually the width and the width is really the depth of the shelves, but sometimes hard to tell from a photo. It's definitely smaller than the Temp-tations rack, but two of them for the same price as one of theirs would give me more storage space.

Yes, 486-702 is what I have in white. I just measured to make sure

the width↕️ is 24" for the butcher block top, the extra

1 1/2" is for the dish towel rack on the (right side), it is 20" in depth.↕️ Very useful and sturdy cart.

This is definitely something I know I will need in the future but I have to keep a close eye on my budget and need to plan any of my major purchases in advance. I'm leaning towards red BTW. I didn't even notice the dish towel rack; just keeps getting better and better for me. You certainly went above and beyond.

Oh wow, you're in Alaska!? When I saw where you were, I just had to check on your current temperature which as of now is 57 degrees. It's 90 degrees here in Virginia. Like much of the rest of the country, we're having a pretty brutal summer, lots of 90 plus degree days and high humidity with heat indexes of 100 plus. Funny though, August is projected to be significantly cooler than July; usually August is even more hot than July. I would love to be in Alaska right now, really hate the heat and humidity of summer.

I'm originally from NY and am familiar with the weather. Also, my parents lived in FL., and I enjoyed spending the winters there, summers were brutal (hot/humid) like most of the lower 48 has been experiencing. I also lived in AZ (Phx area) for 2 yrs. and that was unbearably hot and dry until we moved north to Tusayan (Grand Canyon) for 2 yrs., beautiful spring, summer and fall weather and the winters weren't bad at all. The past couple of winters here have been very mild for AK., we'll see what this winter brings. I'm not too sure, but I think our high so far for the summer has been 80. All in all, I miss the lower 48.

FYI: as others have stated BEST gift I bought was the origami shelve and origami kitchen cart w/butcher block top for my son/SO for their condo from HSN with free s/h and 5 flex pays (I think).'

they love both and boy does it hold the weight -- on the rack they have all the small kitchen appliances inc. KA large pro 600 mixer.

I bought 2 for my pantry area and they haven't tipped and are quite heavy (not weight) but hold capacity.

I saw the Temptations rack and thought it looked "flimsy" and I did hear her say no more than 40 lbs on shelves. I remember the original kitchen cart Mark Charles sold on Q -- my friends bought them and they are beautiful. I wish they would bring those back.

I can only speak for myself...I ordered one. It's just what I need to solve my storage problem. My plan right now is to store my Kitchenaid food processor on one shelf along with the accessories and then on another shelf some of my Temp-tations bowls. You just need to be careful what you put on the shelves and not overload them. Le Creuset you absolutely would want to put on the lower shelves. I have tons of cookbooks and was thinking i'd store them on the rack also, but that's not gong to happen, too many books, not enough shelves.

I purposely submitted my response before reading the other responses and I must say i am very impressed by the responses given and time taken to assist @ChazzyLady with her dilemma. It was like friends emailing one another with suggestions, etc. That's awesome and I am impressed. Some of these forums can get down right nasty for no reason, glad to see R-E-S-P-E-C-T is still alive and well in America.
