A friend found mold in her mini Keurig. I Googled it and found some references about the issue. She cleaned hers with vinegar on a regular basis, but did not use it every day. Not trying to start anything here, just wondering if anyone has had an issue or heard of it. Seems the fact that there is always water in the larger units could be part of the issue, but not sure how much water actually stays in the mini Keurig, if any. Do any of you every run clear water through to see if anything is floating around? This is how friend found hers and her husband took K apart and found mold. I don't know more precise details. I just think standing water is a real issue where mold is concerned. I love my mini and I know many of you do also. Just want to be safe and I don't think this is an issue K would be alerting us to if they knew about it. Thanks for any input.

The Keurig mini does not have a reservoir to hold water. It's a one cup dispenser - you have to pour your cup of water in the Keurig and then your coffee pod - it makes just that one cup. If you want another, you will need to pour another cup in and so on.

Does your friend live where it has high humidity, dampness,o cause mold and or mildew? If so, she will need to clean her machine inside and out with vinegar or the solution Keurig sells.

Yes, as the poster above stated, this particular coffee maker doesn't hold any water longterm. We've been using our mini since last November and have never had a problem. I keep the top lid open and the area where you insert the kcup open when not in use. Keeping it closed up? Yep, I could see nasty things happening inside.

You do have to drain the water every couple of days or daily if you want. To do that do the following:

1) Put an empty cup under the the dispenser

2) Press the BREW button (but do not turn the power on); there will be a few drops or even more water coming out.

This should help with the mold issue.

I'm quick to say, a small amount of bleach wouldn't harm anything, just a bit. Put it in, let it sit for 15-20 minutes, and then flush with fresh water and then water vinegar. I do that with all coffee makers!

I do the vinegar thing the first Saturday morning of every month and I use the Keurig every morning. If we go on vacation, I empty it out. Come back home, do the vinegar thing, and fill it back up.

As previous posters have said, the little K machine does hold a little water and can easily by emptied (per the manual that came with it) by holding down the brew button while the machine is plugged in until the "grinding noise" stops and no more water is coming out. Be sure to put an empty cup under the spout to catch the water!

I'm not sure this gets every single drop of moisture out of the machine, though, and it doesn't take much dampness to start a mold problem. I'm not aware that I have one, but who knows for sure without taking apart the entire thing?
