Southern Biscuit Complete Biscuit Mix

I bought this product and made biscuits this a.m. They were probably the best I have ever made, and so easy! First of all, I did not have buttermilk, so I used Saco Buttermilk Powder (a great product!) and instead of rolling them out, used a (Pam-sprayed ice cream scoop) to portion the dough into regular-size muffin tins. Perfect -- and no mess! I'm sure you could use the buttermilk substitute of 1T. lemon juice to 1 C. milk, also, or of course real buttermilk if you have it.

This product is different than Bisquick or Jiffy; don't now how, but it is. I think perhaps it is made with lard. It is readily available in the South (I live in FL) but Walmart carries it nationwide. Sold in large paper bags at a very inexpensive price.

Any feedback from QVC viewers? I would like to know what other recipes this product can be used for. I tried to contact the website on the back of the bag, but it did not seem to exist. Anyway, this is an excellent product. Just sharing, which is what this forum is all about!

I usually make all mine by hand, but, I'll see if in my area I can buy.

The big difference is if you make biscuits with lower protein flour like White Lily! Soft wheat flour is the secret ingredient most of us can't just go to the store and buy!

Biscuits don't need the gluten levels in most flours. You need gluten in most baked breads and things, but biscuits are not quite like most breads. I live in the south, so White Lily is it for us along with butter and lard!

@CountryMusicGal I happened to go to my local WalMart today. Alas, they did not have this mix.

I'm assuming it would be in the baking aisle near the Bisquick?

(That's where I looked).

I thought all WalMarts carried it; maybe not. It is in the aisle with the flouir, corn meal, etc. Do you live in the South? My local grocery stores (Publix, Winn-Dixie) have it as well. It is available by mail from various sources, but that makes the price prohibitive (postage cost)

As a follow up to my original post, I went to my local Winn-Dixie & looked at the back of the bag. The information has changed -- it now says Southern Biscuit is distributed by Renwood Mills (renwoodmills.com). The stores also carry SB flour (& self-rising flour). It is a soft winter wheat flour, different than Gold Medal or Pillsbury, etc. I guess that is why my biscuits came out so good. I am definitely doing to try the regular flour next time I run out. I guess I am disappointed that I didn't get more of a positive response from QVC viewers -- like gals who have tried the product. Anyway, I hope some of you gals try it and have good results!

I'm out West but I'll keep my eye open for this mix in some of the specialty grocery stores, of which there are many.
