Lock & Lock - why is this happening?

I have 3 different sets of L&L and can't imagine being without them. This is my issue:

1) Sometimes I find it hard to push down on the tabs. I will realign the lid and try again. Sometimes it helps - sometimes it doesn't.

2) More often I find the lids extremely hard to open after they've been sealed and placed in the fridge. I mean, it gets a little painful for my fingers the thing is sealed so tight.

Any suggestions?

I have the same problems...I often wonder how Chris can open and close them with one hand...and they work everytime...while i struggle with them more often then not...my dil has the same issues....

Same issue here - when L&L has been in the refrigerator the plastic gets cold and brittle. Chris demos room temperature bowls.

I've found that some L&L's are very easy to open and close; others are very difficult. I have a large rectangle L&L that I CANNOT close. My husband has to do it. When I open it, I have to use a butter knife. I wouldn't even use that one, but it's perfect for certain foods. Very frustrating! Quality control problem?

I gave my long units to good will. The 'tolerance' (that's an engineering term for measurement) is off. The long sides put too much stress on the short ends and therefore the plastic (sort of) buckles. All 4 sides have to be perfectly positioned to work in harmony. L&L should throw that design in the garbage.

This is an interesting thread, I have a collection of at least 50 L&L, some decades old, all different sizes and shapes and I do not have this problem.

I do notice when I take them out of the freezer they are harder to open, but I guess that is to be expected.

I wonder if the difference is we do not ever put plastic L&L in the microwave.

For those with this problem do you put your items on the microwave?

Microwave? No _ Never - Never will. Even if product is approved for the microwave, I don't. Glass is better. Since last poster has had L&L for years that are still in excellent condition - I suspect L&L has gone to a different manufacturer - for cost savings. I even have problem with round storage bowls - after a few uses it's difficult to snap all 4 locks - so I do 2 or 3 and call it closed! And I don't put covers in dishwasher either - hand clean. Well, for $19 guess you get what you pay for.

I have found that with L & L you have to make sure that the food in the container has to cool down before you put the lid on. If not and the food is too hot it creates a vacuum and is extremely hard to open.

I have Lock & Lock, new ones and old ones, I don't have this problem. I have found that when you go to close the lids, you should, e.g., close the long sides first and then the short ones, or vice versa. You really can't close a short side and then a long side and work your way around. It just doesn't work that way. I never put my pieces in the microwave, but I do put them in the dishwasher. For the round pieces, I try to close the opposite sides first and then work my way around. I do agree that you have to let food cool off before locking the lids to avoid a stuck lid.

I recently purchased the set with the bread container. I have had no problems with it, even though many people complained about it in the reviews.
