A week? I would run out of dishes. LOL

I run my dishwasher every day, and sometimes twice. I don't use paper plates.

I despise seeing dirty dishes in the sink. I like to keep my kitchen neat and tidy.

I'm reading yet another book on home keeping and organizing - it's a passion of mine. Just when I thought I'd read all the suggestions the world has to offer, this author recommends washing your dishes every day and not saving them until the end of the week.

Whaaaaaa?

Does anyone do that?! I'm really dumbfounded. I know not everyone is a neat freak, but really? Saving your dishes to wash once a week?

I can hardly believe it.

I don't wash the dishes every day. I live alone and don't eat every meal at home, and I have a dishwasher. Dishes get rinsed and go in the dishwasher to get washed when it's full OR based on how much room I'll need to wash a dinner pot/pan. If I don't eat at home much during a week, I've got very few dishes to wash and have gone a week without running the dishwasher.

I'm not running the dishwasher for two plates, 2 cups, and 3 pieces of flatware and I'm not washing them by hand, either. Handwashing is a waste of my time and water.

If I just had a few dishes like you do, I would not do them every day either. I would just rinse them and place them in the dishwasher. However, there are three of us in the household, so dishes need to get done every day.

Could the author have meant people who wash dishes by hand? That would be disgusting to do them once a week, but I have seen that with young guys. When my son was in college, he and his roommates would only wash dishes once a week or so. It was awful. I walked in to his apartment once, took one look at the kitchen, and started cleaning. Then even had dirty dishes hidden in the oven! We had to hand wash a couple cups just so we could have coffee before we attacked the kitchen. Boy...did he get the, "This is not how I raised you lecture!"

Putting off dishes until Tuesday, for instance, will be a disaster unless you never eat at home. To simplify everything else you need to do, dishes should be washed every day, followed by wiping the counters and sink without fail.

Yes, that can feel like a full-time job if you aren't used to doing dishes every day. But imagine how much work and stress you create when you save them all for the weekend? When you save dishes for another day, every day your kitchen becomes a little bit messier, a little bit more difficult to clean, and a lot more likely to attract more clutter and mess."

LOL!!! Not in my house. If I cook dinner etc the dishes are done after we eat. I have never had dirty dishes sitting in the sink or sitting on the counter. Not ever. I'm a clean freak & I could not stand that.

My sister has 3 grandkids living with her & she is in the kitchen washing dishes several times a day & always has them gathering in the sink before she has time to get to them. It's a never ending story for her.

I would never do that. Although I use to have an Aunt that put hers in the oven. She would wait until the dishpan was full then wash. I'd be afraid I'd turn the oven on and start a hot mess.

We don't have a dishwasher, well except me and DH. I wash dishes, dry them and put them away after every meal. Even snacks. I can't stand a sink full of dirty dishes. If I had a dishwasher I would run it every single day and put the dishes away. That's just the way I do things. I know people get busy but good grief.

As soon as the dishes or whatever, are dirty, I hand wash them in hot soapy water, rinse, dry, put them away. This is just standard procedure. In the evening wipe down countertops, stove, table, etc., take out the trash and sweep and mop the kitchen/dining area. I do not have a dishwasher so hand washing is the only way. Just the way I was brought up -- but everything is always sparkling clean.

The dishes I hand-wash, I do those once to twice a day. But the ones that I put in the dishwasher I could not even imagine wasting the water and energy to run it every day SINCE it takes me a lot longer than that to fill it up.

If I were going to wash EVERY dish every day, then I wouldn't put any in my dishwasher. I understand that families can probably pretty much fill up a dishwasher every day or so but I mostly just cook for me, the bird, and the dog. There is no way I could fill up the dishwasher in less than a week except maybe for the whole Thanksgiving thing.
