Curbside grocery pickup

I live in Knoxville Tn and I do this at the Food City only 5.00 and I get good service. You can also do this at a couple of Kroger Marketplaces but I have not used them yet. I highly recommend this service.

My #1Granddaughter lives in Knoxville with her family. I'll send her a copy of your post so she can check into this. She has a 16 month old, and it might make life easier for her.

Wish we had something like that here - getting older and dragging my sometimes tired body through the grocery gets old lately. Thanks for your post.

ShopRite (and one or two other supermarkets) offer the service in S.E. PA. Pickup costs $10.00; delivery is an additional $16.95.

I had never heard of this before so in looking it up I found that Walmart has free curb side pick service in some markets and is expanding. Here is the article if you would like to check if it's available in your area:

We don't have this where I live in WI. Last year when I was going through chemo, I couldn't walk around a grocery store. I checked all the stores to make sure. I thought that sound like a good entrepreneur opportunity.

Thanks for triggering Knoxville memories. I shopped food city when I lived there in 1996.

Wow, that's a lot of money. Glad I love to food shop; I would not want to have to pay those prices for pick up or delivery. I shop at ShopRite as well. Ours offers home delivery but I don't know what the cost is. Never heard of curbside pick up at food stores.

25 years ago our locally owned grocery store had this with no extra charge for you to pick it up in the store, or they would deliver it to your house for $5. Unfortunately, this service and the store are long gone.

When we were young and the family had one car, my mother always had groceries delivered, otherwise it was a ten block walk with the radio flyer wagon.

I do this all the time now. Most grocery stores here that provide this service have the option of the customer paying $5.00 per trip or for $99.00 per year. You can have unlimited visits if you want. This helps if you forgot the milk etc. and do not want to pay another 5 bucks for a single item or two.

I would recommend that you try the different stores to see which one is best before making a commitment. The first store that I tried did a great job except for one thing. The produce that I was receiving was tired. I did not like paying full price and felt they were taking advantage. I moved on and tried several until I found one that gave me first quality everytime.

This has been such a popular service that other stores in my area are having to offer it now to remain competitive. It has been worth every penny to me.

This is like admitting I'm a dinosaur but I remember when most grocery stores offered this service free of charge. Like the dinosaur the service disappeared sometime in the 1960s. Glad to see it is coming back even if there is a charge. I wouldn't use it often but there are days ...

I sometimes order my groceries online to pick up at a designated time. I think the first 3 times were free, then $5 (or $5.99-can't remember now). The store has a couple of parking spots designated for this, & there are buzzers w/speakers to let them know you're there. King Soopers, or known as Kroger's or City Market in other locales.

I like this when I know exactly what brands I want. Although the store shoppers do a pretty good job selecting fresh produce, sometimes I prefer to choose for myself.

The first time I used this was the day before Thanksgiving last year. Sure was great not to have to go into the store & deal with the crowds!

They also have delivery service that costs $12.

You set up an account online with the store. You then fill out your grocery list. I always look at the weekly specials ( same as the newspaper flyer), then add my items.

You select a time and day for the pick up, and then you select how you want to pay. I always just pull up to the curb, press the button to let them know I am there. They come out and take my card right there, swipe it and hand it back to me and I sign.

My shoppers open my suv in the rear and place my groceries in the back. I never have to get out of my vehicle at all. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you order on line and there is a picture and size of what you order. You pay on online too. I tried to tip the gentleman and he would not accept my tip. I have been using the same food city for 5 trips now. I like the service and the produce is good too. You pick a pickup time when you order.

Me, too, Marp,

When I was little (when the dinosaurs were roaming the earth), our grocery store delivered for free. My mom would always tip the delivery boy. We also had a milkman and milkbox. Mom would leave the empty glass bottles (yes, I said glass) along with a note for what she wanted and there it was. I also remember when ALL stores were closed on Sundays and families were together. You also got 'dressed up' when you went downtown or rode on public transportation. I recall wearing a hat and white gloves as it was what 'ladies' did. You also got dressed up when you flew in a plane or met someone at the airport. Of course, there was no question as to how one dressed for church. Even in the hottest weather with no air conditioning, men wore suits and ties and ladies wore hats and gloves. Today, what is seen in church is very disrespecful and often shocking. While I realize that reminiscing sometimes can make old times appear a lot better than they actually were but I was blessed with wonderful, loving parents and am very grateful God gave them to me. @docsgirl. In the 50s, our next door neighbors owned a Piggly Wiggly store & Mom always shopped there. Brought groceries home in the cartons the products were delivered in from the manufacturers. I think we took them back the following week to re-use. There was a "box boy" who carried the boxes out to the car. Sometimes he delivered, too.

We have peapod.com. Order on line they can deliver or you can drive up. It's free if you spend like $75 I think. My goddaughter is an order picker/shopper there. They are constantly told "pick only the best quality. If there is a ding, bruise etc it's a no go. They've also done studies you save money in the long run, no impulse buys and they still do double coupons and sales. 👍🏼

I see the shoppers all the time in our Shoprite and they seem to take a lot of care when it comes to picking the produce.

Our store doesn't have curbside service, you do have to go into the store to get your order. They also do delivery to home service.

It's a good idea if you are short on time or sick and can't get out.

It was an adjustment for me. I look everything over when I am storing it. We have a guarantee in place that if I am not satisfied I will get a replacement or a refund. So far I have been really happy with the current store that I am using.

Publix is doing this in some areas. My son told me he text his order in and picks it up! Not in my area yet.
