Mother use to make creamed peas on toast, that's it. But ya know, it was really tasty. I tried to make once, but I could never recreate it like she made it.

I also ate my share of liver wurst sandwiches and jello, I haven't touched either of those foods in decades. Thought it would make for a fun subject.

As a kid I loved goose liver ( Braunsweiger) sandwiches with mayonnaise on white bread. Tried it as an adult and nearly barfed. Ugh! There are far more foods I eat now but didn't like as a kid or simply never tried then.

Tuna salad. Can't stand any kind of mayo, Miracle Whip, or creamy salad dressings. For that matter, I don't really like tuna any more, either. I was the firstborn, so of course my mother was going to bring me up right & I had to eat what I was given with no complaints. That sure changed by the time my brother, #5, came along! LOL!

Back in the Mid 50's- 1960's growing up I remember eating lots of:

Steak, pork chops, leg of lamb, spaghetti, barbecues outside with hot dogs and burgers, bread, pop, candy, TV dinners( the new thing!) mc Donalds, KFC, Taco Bell, Baskin and robin's... Just to name a few... I eat NONE of these foods now as they are considered unhealthy!

This is just what comes flooding into my mind.... There was just a eat anything/ everything type of attitude about food. No worrying about high cholesterol, bad fats, bad sugar or the like of today. I am glad I was able to enjoy growing up eating anything and just enjoying food forwhat it is.

As a small child, I used to request 'sarbean' (sardine) sandwiches for lunch. I just LOVED sardines and would eat a few out of the can while my sandwich was being made! I also loved herring. Used to love snacking on a jar of Vita herring in wine sauce.

Don't know if I'd enjoy a sardine sandwich nowadays - must try one sometime. As far as the herring goes, sounds gross, but I such a piece of herring to remove saltiness, then rinse and dry with a paper towel and feed to my furbaby. I don't want him having all the salt but want him to get the protein. So, whenever I buy a jar. I save it for him. He had a broken back and will always have limitations with his hind legs, so I just figure he needs the protein more than I.

There's nothing I ate then that I absolutely won't eat now, but I avoid pork chops because we had them so frequently when I was a kid and I've never really liked them. My sister was a picky eater, so my mom wound up repeating a lot of dishes that my sister would eat. Now my sister is a vegetarian. I love pork, just not the pork chops.

I read every single post here, some I laughed at, one I felt badly for.

I started in the early 50s, the Wonder Bread era, you know the white bag with the colored balloons. I remember bottled qrts of milk being delivered. My 2 sisters and I couldn't wait for the milkman to arrive. Now I strugle to recall why. We ate mostly cereal for breakfast, eggs, bacon on the weekends with fruit.

Later we grew into eating sandwiches like many here have said. Yes, I did liverwurst too. Liked it then, still do. We'd go to this deli on Saturday morning with sawdust on the wood floor. The minute you got close to it you could begin to get that whiff of one great deli. We'd get deli meats for Dad's lunches and these homemade big poppy seed hard rolls that were wonderful.

Dad was a real meat & potatoes guy who loved his desserts too. So it was meat, mashed potatoes and a veggie (one that he'd eat) every night. Spaghetti was a real treat because Mom of course made her own sauce that simmered all day. We'd beg her to saute extra onions so that we could have an onion sandwich. YUM

As I got older Mom & I would venture out and have stuff at dinner that nobody else liked ie mushrooms for instance. Bottom line there isn't anything I ate way back when that I wouldn't or don't eat today.

ANd if you're wondering, my liverwurst sandwich was with mustard & pickles on one of those hard rolls.

As a kid, I ate lots of sweet things: candy, cake, donuts, ice cream, pie, etc. Now I don't eat ANY sugar, including fruit. Sugar is so bad for you; I wish that I hadn't eaten so much of it as a kid.

@Goldengate8361 It was why I ended up with a mouthful of big mercury fillings and now have a mouthful of crowns and root canals.....all thanks to that abundance of sugar I ate as a child.
