Does anyone use an immersion blender for smoothies and are you pleased with how it blends? I would like to add green smoothies to my diet, but cannot pay $400.00 for a blender.

I use a Cuisinart immersion blender most mornings to make my smoothies, usually blueberry (frozen), yoghurt, almond milk and bananas. I've had it for about two years and have used it often. I haven't used it for tough greens like kale.

I do not think an immerion blender i going to do what you want.

They work fine for softer fruits and protein powders, but anything like greens, harder fruits or vegetables will end up quite gritty.

If you do not want to go to the expense of a Vitamix (which is the best in my opinion) or a BlendTec (not as good as the Vitamix in my opinion), I think your best choice may be a NatriNinja.

While the NutriNinja does not do as good a job as the Vitami (in my experience), I find myself using it more often because of its small footprint and ease of cleanup.

There is a Ninja TSV coming in July for around $30 that should be able to do smoothies. It's one of the shorter ones you pulse from the top.

Has anyone had problems with Ninja blades? I have read some reviews and really uncomfortable buying a Ninja.

I have the Dash blender from HSN. I think it's about $199 right now. It's wonderful. To me it works as well as a Vitamix.

Not $30, but just giving another alternative.
