@eddyandme You are doing it correctly. Make sure your lid is always on correctly and if it is you should be fine. When it is done cooking you will know as it goes to warm. The time estimated to be done is controlled by the Skinny Mini. It may be longer than you think. If you got the one with the steamer insert be sure to be careful when you push the Cook button down. The first version has 4 legs and the steamer version I have does not. You can tip mine towards you as you push the Cook button down. I contacted the company to see if I could get another leg for it but they didn't have any. They offered a refund with free shipping back but I love mine and decided to keep it. I put a doorstop that is easy to slide under and it is perfect to stabilizer. They probably will add the extra leg back on the next version. Rice comes out perfect. Omelets are fluffy and delicious. If you are able to afford the book Simply Rice Cooker on HSN by Marian Getz you will have lots of easy recipes to do in it. Good luck and post any questions here. Everyone that owns it are very willing to help you.

@eddyandme The inside is suppose to be a little wobbly per Lorena when she did the demos. She said it is made with a lip on the outside to keep any boil overs to run on the outside and not get inside the element inside. I don't see why cabbage couldn't be made in it. Just measure out a little more than you need will cook down like spinach does also. My Mom used to brown cabbage in a frying pan with a little butter when we were kids and we loved it. I can't imagine a child be as satisfied with what we ate as a child. I am glad I got the cookbook as it didn't really have any recipes unless you watched her presentations. Lorena did say she was working on a cookbook for the Skinny Mini. I love to see what others make in this. The rice I made in the Skinny Mini was the first rice I had made in years as I use the frozen Steamfresh for the microwave. I will be making it in the Skinny Mini from now on.

What a difference in taste!

It is a small world. I make the fried cabbage also like my Mom. She just chopped it up with long skinny strands and added some butter with some salt and pepper and fried it on highest heat she could without burning it. It really gave it a nice taste. I am sure if she had an electric skillet she would have used it though. She added bacon if she had some. She may have used lard at times but I just saw her with the butter. I may have to get some cabbage and make some. Some of the best memories of mine are from foods as when I smell them I can picture where I was and whom I was with eating it. My daughter was the only one that liked it in my house. My husband doesn't even give me a hard time when I smell the house up. Better tasting than smelling when cooked.

What does it taste like? I am not a fan of brown rice of any I have tried. The Skinny Mini takes up little room and makes just enough for me of things my husband doesn't like. It's cute too. I got the Rio Red as I didn't know if I would like it but I really wanted the blue. I give small appliances to my niece as she doesn't have much. It will give me an excuse to buy the next model in this someday.

MKR, this was my first bag of jasmine rice! Someone mentioned it on one of my boards. It is not as heavy or nutty as brown rice. It is more long grain, and a very, very pale golden color. It definitely has a yummy taste, not as bland as white, and since it is a brown rice, it is better for you.

I picked up a small bag of Mahatma Brown Jasmine Rice at the grocery store. You can google it to see what the bag looks like. It's red and yellow. I like it with just salt, and maybe a few sprays of the I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. I also mixed some in with a lentil chili mix that I got at Costco.

I say give it a try! I used the same proportions as on the bag, but I did use the "cup" included with the Mini.

I love that I just fill up the mini, hit cook, and walk away.

Edited to say, the Jasmine comes in white and brown, and what I described was the brown.

I made rice for the first time in my Skinny Mini tonight. I use Lundberg's organic white Jasmine rice which is from California. White, California rice is supposed to be lower in arsenic than other types. My husband is Asian and knows his rice, and he said it was good. Since I just make it for the 2 of us I like using the Skinny Mini for making it.
