I made fresh breaded chicken strips. They were a tad dry. The breading did not blow off of them. I either need to cook it at a lower temp, cook for less time or dip the chicken in olive oil then the breading instead of dipping it egg. They also have a recipe in the booklet that comes with the fryer. I may have to try it. I will have to experiment more. I ran across a recipe for fresh onion rings. I also made pork chops brushed with olive oil, salt, pepper & thyme. They were yummy.

It seems only frozen potatoes can be used, so I won't be buying the air fryer. There are ways to cook with much less fat, in general, the conventional way. I don't fry often and the oil is hot enough so that not much fat remains on the food, and once in a while, this is okay. I won't give up my fresh fried french fries and twice yearly fried chicken.

Meredith made french fries from fresh potatoes in a video on her facebook page yesterday. She just cut the potatoes and boiled in water a few minutes drained and patted dry and put them in the air fryer. So you do not need frozen.

I like when making frozen breaded jumbo shrimp or onion rings the house does not stink like it does when you use oil. Especially the next morning with the air fryer the smell is gone & cooking in oil you can still smell it the next morning. Even when I fry chicken in oil I only put enough oil to cover the bottom of the fry pan.

I too wondered how an "air fryer" worked. Googled it, and learned they work better on foods that were already breaded or oiled, like store-bought frozen french fries. In fact, the over-whelming sentiment seemed to be that, unless you eat a lot of French fries, there's no reason to buy an air fryer.

Not sure what you're reading ValuSkr but Meredith demonstrated an amazing variety of food in the presentation I watched this morning. French Fries might be the most common food done in an air fryer, but they certainly don't represent a factor in making your decision to purchase one or not.

There's apparently a decent recipe collection that comes with the air fryer, more on the QVC site and elsewhere on the Internet. Also Meredith is writing a cookbook for the air fryer that will be available in the fall.

You still may not be interested in getting an air fryer, but don't decide that because you don't eat a lot of French fries. I suspect those who say, "unless you eat a lot of French fries, there's no reason to buy an air fryer" are simply lacking in imagination or a willingness to try various new recipes for the air fryer.

Actually I kind of thought like you, ValuSkr, what would I use an air fryer for except French fries and frozen cheese sticks. But after watching Meredith's presentation, I'm seriously considering getting one today. After all, we do have 30 days to try it out and if it isn't meeting our needs, it can be returned.

In the last presentation, Meredith mentioned that she's experimenting with more recipes for the air fryer, and she will have a new cookbook coming out in the fall. She mentioned something about putting a layer of breading OVER the batter, then cooking it, to mitigate the problem of a wet batter.

Also, I'm wondering if one could dip the food in a wet batter, then freeze before cooking in the air fryer, to work around the wet batter issue.

Totally disagree with statement that u don't need an sir fryer unless u are eating lots of frozen. In fact, I I hardly use it for frozen.
