Crockpot Casserole Slow Cooker

Does anyone own one of these new crockpots? If so, do you like it? I am considering adding one to my CP collection. I notice the 9x13 crock can be used to cook in a conventional oven and then placed in the base to keep the dish warm. If you have a topping like browned bread crumbs, do they become soggy while sitting in the base? Any feedback will be appreciated.

I purchased my first crockpot over the summer. It is 6 1/2 qts.

The "pot" part I can also use in an oven but not in a microwave per the user manual. Pot is very heavy. I don't use my oven anyways but the pot is pretty enough to sit on a table.

Sorry I cannot answer your question but I have 2 questions for you. As a newbie, I was under the impression that ALL crockpots are slow cookers. Not so??????

I bought a like new crockpot at the local Salvation Army.

Works great !

BUT !

There was a RECALL on this model.

Bottom line.......the interior POT was TOO heavy for the side handles !

The handles would come off :-(

What a mess !

Consider the weight of the interior pot :-)

Makes great beans !!

5 dollars !

I've been coveting one of these, but held off.

I'd think if you cooked the dish in the crockpot casserole, removed it and did the browned topping in the oven and then replaced it on "warm" in the crockpot, you'd be safe in it still remaining in a somewhat crispy topping. JMHO.

You are correct,MziMac, all crockpots are slow cookers. I am using the name that the manufacturer uses for this product. It is a fairly new product which features a rectangular 9x13 "casserole" for the crock. Its capacity is 3.5 qts.

Lol, yes, I have a collection of five crockpots. A 4 qt & a 5qt round, (2) ovals, 6 & 6.5 qt and a 1qt round which is used for appetizer/hot dip recipes. When I was working & our kids were at home, I used to use the crockpot 3-4 days per week.

We host a brunch for 35-40 people each year in January & I rely on them to cook & serve 3 varieties of an egg/cheese dishes. Last year, we added a dairy, egg and gluten free option to accommodate several guests dietary needs. I wanted to try that one in the new crockpot because we also serve several overnight french toast casserole and adding the df, ef, gf casserole threw off the cooking times. I love my crockpots!

Thanks for your input, milkbone. Since this is a newer model, it hasn't been recalled (yet). Yikes, having the handles break off would be scary. What a great price you paid!

I have been eying this for some time, too. I am hoping someone has tried one of these & could give a review. I checked online reviews & there aren't many, though the ones I found were positive. I like your suggestion for crisping the topping, thanks.

Kohl's this on sale this weekend and there is an extra discount through today for their friends & family sale, so am hoping to take advantage of this.

I have one of those but have never put the one part in the oven. I use it to keep lasagna, potatoes, veggies warm mostly.

I own two of the new casserole style Crockpot and also have the plug-in in four different sizes. I have a large family and a busy life so I use them for large family dinners and when I am short on time to cook. I really like my casserole style and have used it several times with no complaints. It allows me to cook lasagna, enchiladas and other casseroles that need the 9x13 size pan. All of my Crockpot brand and Hamilton Beach slowcookers ( I have 10 in various sizes) have hot spots so I try to watch the time and tempurature very carefully. I did read all of the reviews that I could find before purchasing. The most helpful information I found was on YouTube. My assessment was that either you will love it or you will hate it. I love it. The second casserole Crockpot was purchased with a rebate and a 30% off coupon plus it was on sale for $5 off. It cost me $13 or I probably would not have purchased it. I hope that this helps you in your decision.

We have a larger family, too. Thanks for your input on your crock pots. Wow, 11 crockpots, I am in awe! I agree about the hot spots in the Crock Pot brand. It is a more of a problem in the new cps. I actually donated one I purchased a couple of years ago with a note attached warning that one side had a rolling boil on low. I replaced it with a GE Programable recommended by one of my daughter-in-laws, which is my favorite.

Well, ladies, I decided to go ahead & purchase the one at Kohl's. Since our Kohl's is open till midnight, dh & I went around 9:30 last night, only to discover they were sold out. The other Kohl's in town was also sold out with 6 on back order. This seems to be a very popular item. I made a comment to the SA helping us that I would just go home & order online. He encouraged me to order at the instore terminal since everything ordered that way has free shipping (to get free shipping from home required a $75 minimum order). So my new crockpot has been ordered and I should have it next week. Thanks to all who replied, you are the greatest!

@KathT, My husband was leaning towards our getting one, he thought it was great. But I didn't want one. I have 3 sizes now and like to use my oven. This would need to have a new place to rest once it's not in use and I just don't see our using it enough. If you get one, tell us how it has helped you in your cooking, and if you are using it a lot, and what you're making in one. Thanks!

I've had the casserole crock pot now for quite a few months; we got it right after it first came out. It works very well. I've done crock pot mac and cheese, pork chops, chicken, etc. I'm very pleased with it. I also like that the insert comes out and can be easily washed. And that I can use the insert in the oven when I need an extra 9 x 13-inch pan.

One caution: I think it cooks faster than my older crock pots. So if your recipe states to cook for 8 hours, you might want to check it after 6 hours. Just an FYI.

I like it and I'm glad I bought it.

Thanks for your comments. I have thought about purchasing this for some time. I wasn't sure I needed it either. I am getting this mostly for entertaining, if it works it will free up room in the oven so that other things cook more efficiently. Last year there was one too many casseroles in the oven & some things took longer to bake than they had before. One dish overcooked. If I like the way it cooks I will be using it more often. We are empty nesters & on a day to day basis I don't do as much crockpot cooking as I did when we had kids living at home. We just don't eat as much as the recipes make. I do freeze the leftovers & don't need to cook everyday because of this.

When it comes to storing this & the other crockpots, my dh built shelves in our basement many years ago. This is where I store these & many of the dishes & things we use when we entertain. About 3 years ago we reorganized the storage room and got rid of a bunch of the things we no longer needed/used. This gave us the opportunity to group all our entertaining stuff that was all over the house in one place.

Four of our five sons and six of our eleven grandkids live within 10 miles of us. We will use this crockpot when we have them over. I will come back & report on how it cooks.

Thanks for posting your experiences with the crockpot casserole. It is helpful to know what you have used it for and that it has worked successfully for you. Thanks for the tip on the cooking time! The newer crockpots do cook hotter & faster so I will definitely factor this in. I am hopeful I will like this as much as you like yours.
