I recently switched my kitchen towels to red-themed ones for the winter/Christmas season to get a warmer feel than the usual yellow and blue theme I have.

I really like waffle weave towels, even though they seem to shrink more than the cotton or linen ones.

My current favorite is this cotton one from Stonewall Kitchen. It has a map of Maine. I'm in California but love the feel of coastal New England.

Do you all have special or favorite kitchen towels?

My favorite kitchen towels to use are from Sur La Table. They're called indigo ribbed kitchen towels and are 100% Turkish cotton. They're really nice and absorbent.

I have a favorite kitchen towel that I keep hanging on my oven door but never use. It is from Anthropologie and has a picture of a French Bulldog on it and says "Pardon My French." My sister gave it to me because I have a Frenchie, and I just love it.

Thank you for reminding me as I needed to put out my Le Creuset Christmas towel (I love freebies)! There, that's better . . .

My favorite kitchen towels are some window pane check ones I bought at Evine. They are a lovely shade of gray and very absorbent.

I got some waffle weave ones from BBB (I think it was a 3-pack), and those are my current favorites. They are soft, abosrbent. They go through the wash just fine.

P.S. Seeing that Maine kit. towel reminded me--I went to Japan and took towels with my state map stamped on them as gifts.

Mine are (boring) all either solid red or solid black. The red ones that are my favorites are just so because they are decent quality AND a good shade of red - not orangey (like, AT ALL) but not too blue - just an in-the-middle red that's not wimpy or washed out looking.

I don't even know what brands I have but I am really not much of a store-shopper so I have gotten them all online.

I think my Ritz Royale Wonder Towel will beat the heck out of any other towel that anyone can name. It really is simply the best.

My grandmother used them, my mother used them and I swear by them.

I give them as presents all the time and everyone, to a person, raves about them. And, did I mention, they are some of the most inexpensive and longest lasting dish towels around.

___

The Ritz towel has been around for decades. Before the advent of chi-chi, upscale stores the Ritz towel was the "go to" towel. William Sonoma used to carry them a few decades back when they were just starting out. About 10-15 years ago, they dropped Ritz and manufactured their own cheaper quality (and inferior brand) which they eventually discontinued.

That's so amazing about the Ritz towel is that because of it's once patented weave -- there was a lawsuit over it -- the towel dries very quickly.

The Ritz towel is also almost indestructible, and here's what I mean by that. I have one Ritz towel that is over 25 years old and which I still use regularly (out of curiosity). For a number of years now, it's had a small hole in it. Over many washings the hole has gotten slightly bigger, but the darned thing refuses to unravel (lol, it's that well made).

I think some stores may have stopped carrying Ritz because the towel was so indestructible (i.e. no follow up sales). It's also got this cozy, comfy, yesteryears pattern that may not be jazzy enough for the upscale stores.

When I had to purchase some new RItz towels a few years back, they seemed to have vanished from the map. lol, when I finally tracked down the manufacturer -- after two days of internet searches -- the customer service reps didn't know the towel I was referring to. They suggested that I call back after lunch and speak to a long time employee... and she knew I was looking for the Ritz Royale Wonder Towel.

It was still a bit difficult to track down a retailer. After some checking, I found that the prices varied wildly. Sears was charging $12-3. Amazon was charging around $10. I was eventually able to find a few really solid brick and mortar stores who have reasonable prices: gracioushomes ($4), kilianhardware ($5), and vermontkitchensupply ($6). I got mine at gracioushomes but they all looked like great stores.

___

Make sure you purchase the Ritz Royale Wonder Towels with the checkerboard colored patterns (against a white background which stays pretty much white over the years and years). Don't buy the solid color terry towels because they don't dry quickly.

Enjoy!!

-- bebe

_____

100% Cotton.

Super Absorbent.

Lintless and Colorfast.

Extra Large 20" x 30".

This towel has a flat weave with no nap. Perfect for cleaning, especially on glass where lint can be a nuisance. Great for drying dishes.

_____
