I wish I could send my KA mixer back to the factory for a paint job.

Mine was a wedding gift to my parents in 1943 - very vintage. My Mom used it a ton and I do too. It has survived through a household with 5 kids so it has been through a lot, and still runs perfectly. However, it is white and the paint is chipped in some places. She looks her age, sadly. I love the new colors - especially sea glass. I wish I could send her in for a paint job. Earl Scheib for mixers.

(for those who don't remember Earl S was a place that painted cars in the 50's very inexpensive).

If you're brave, apparently you can repaint it yourself using appliance paint. I did a Google search for "repaint kitchenaid stand mixer" and a bunch of pages came up with instructions about how to do it. Results in photos look great. Who knew?

If you know someone who owns a body shop, talk to him. My mother once had a refrigerator repainted at a body shop. When I body shop is painting a car the color you want your mixer painted, they could spay yours and clear coat it.

There are artists who actually paint these...like the Pioneer Women's KA.

So I'm sure you can get your painted too.

I'd try an auto body shop. They do stoves, refrigerators and other household appliances too.

Same here. Mine is more than 35 years old and is the kind of gold that was popular, then. It works great and I don't use it that often, but I sure would like it to be a newer color. I keep it in my pantry so it is not on display.

I wouldn't want to repaint a mixer that old because then it's no longer really vintage. It is like when people refinish furniture and ruin the value. It ight cost more too than simply getting a new one in those fabulous colors, along with a new bowl and the attachments.

You couldn't beat the price on the mixer today and the colors are simpy stunning.

My aunt sort of collected vintage mixers--had four in the very top cabinets above her stove! LOL!!

Just bring it to an auto paint shop. It's inexpensive and will last a long time.

It would be interesting to know what they would charge. mine has a lot of chrome so there would be a lot of prep work for them.

On many levels I would never do that! 1. it was my Mothers 2. They don't make them this well any more 3. I don't just throw away hundreds of dollars when I don't need to.

If that's the case, display it and use it and be proud of it the way it is. Isn't that the whole point that it is old?

Buy a pretty cover for it from etsy. I bet you can even find a vendor who will do a custom cover for it, if you really want that.

We have what is apparently a more valuable mixer than my more recent Kitchen Aid. I have an older Hobart mixer - white - and in almost perfect shape. Works like clockwork, and doesn't have a scratch on it. I only bought a newer one for the variety of beaters and later I bought the glass bowl. After looking around I am amazed at what the old Hobart is worth.

The Crome trim won't cause a problem or excessive prep work. It will just be taped off before it is painted.
