Anyone have a Maslin Pan?

I have seen them for years in Chefs Ctalog and finally broke down and bought the 10 qt.

Unfotunately, in my zeal and admiration after taking it out of the box and admiring it, I lost any infor mationthat may have come with it..

Do you think I need to season it? It is basically a stock pot and generally I always season frypans, not saucepans or stockpots, but what do you think'?

I've never heard of one either. But it does look handy. I'd say it depends on what it's made of. Personally I only season cast iron and unglazed ceramic/stoneware.

its stainless, and its 10 qt- I will use it for soups, stocks and especially for canning-

Its bail type handle along with a single helper handle makes it really easy to carry and pour from.. Glass lid iwth vent means no boil l overs...

The narrow base widens to the top and thus concentrates flavors and less surface area means virtually no sticking..

Been eyeing it for a long time and when they had 50% off and free shipping, I BIT!

There is a YouTube video of it..it really looks very multi functional! I like that the handle (can) stays upright while cooking, so it stays cool.. The reviews are almost totally 5 star, but then, everything I get at Chefs is pretty darn good!

so what do you think, season, or not? I am dying to use it!

You are probably right, no need to season it..it's just, well you only gave ONE chance, when it's new, and I didn't want to blow it!

I just looked it up, that's a beauty and since it's 18/10 SS I vote no seasoning too.

Stainless steel pans cannot be seasoned. The metal is too hard.

The only thig needing seasoning are non-stick (in some cases)), cast iron (if not preseasoned), aluminum frying pans, and carbon steel (aka blue steel, black steel, raw steel, black iron).

I lusted after it for a long time- but they go on sale- in fact they may be on sale now...

I finally "cracked " when my 10 qt for $99 went on sale for $49 with free shipping! (who wouldnt!?)

and, for everyone, if you don't GET Chefs Caltaog ...well WHY NOT!!!????

I read somewhere that Chef's Catalog is folding, thus the sales. You better snag anything else you like, now!

Target bought Chefs a couple years ago and plans to shut it down soon. This is at least part of the story as reported by a ColoradoTV station website.........

A longtime business in Colorado Springs is shutting its doors. More than 150 people will soon be out of jobs.

Employees At Chefs Catalog tell 11 News they found out about it in a meeting Friday. They say they were shocked and upset to hear the news. They did not want to go on camera.

CHEFS Catalog was purchased by Target in 2013. They sell kitchen accessories. The store is mainly based through a catalog and online. They also have a retail store in Colorado Springs near Centennial Boulevard and Garden of the Gods Road.

There are 160 employees who work at the main office in Colorado Springs and at the retail store. Twenty other people work at a location in California and will be out of a job too.

Target officials say they are closing CHEFS Catalog and Cooking.com. Target purchased both in 2013 but tell us they no longer align with the company’s direction.

Target said in a statement: “Target purchased CHEFS Catalog and Cooking.com in 2013 to help build new capabilities – like our recipe portal on Target.com - and to determine how guests might respond to broadened access to different brands. These businesses continued to operate separately from Target’s core digital business.

“Target’s digital business has strengthened and grown but as the company’s priorities evolved, CHEFS Catalog and Cooking.com no longer aligned with the broader strategy. Additionally, the results of these businesses did not meet our expectations.”

11 News talked to a who says she’s disappointed.

“It's really sad since I just moved here and it seems like they have a lot of good stuff in there so, I would have been here more often if they were opened,” said Kristi.

Target tells us CHEFS Catalog should be completely shut down by early next year.

I know I said this before but I'm going to say it again . . . I am so bummed when a good company like Chef's Catalogue gets bought by a bigger company and then shut down when they no longer fit in . . . so many jobs have been lost because of this and it just makes my blood boil.

The chefscatalog website has some good sale prices and free shipping on Le Crueset at the moment.
