I have had many coffee makers and cannot find one that makes really hot coffee. I just got the Keurig 2.0 and you can gulp down the coffee as soon as you pour it in your cup. I even heat up the creamer so as not to cool the coffee. I feel like I have to drink fast to keep it from getting cold.

I hear you. I do not like the Keurig for the reason you mention--it's drinking temperature out of the gate and then the cup just gets cooler.

I think this is physics: the smaller volume of coffee brewed in a mug has more surface area compared to volume--so it's going to cool faster. A bigger carafe has more volume to surface area--stays warmer. And china mugs really chill coffee faster than a glass carafe, as well. Double whammy!

I had a Keurig Vue for a while and it brewed hot coffee in a mug (you could set temps) but the Vue didn't catch on because it didn't use K cups (what, they thought we'd give those us?) So I had to get rid of it because no cups were available any more. It's been discontinued.

I use a regular Mr. Coffee type of brewer and I just make a short pot. The "4 cup" is about a 20oz mug and it's hot enough.

I felt the same way-would put the cup in the microwave for 30 seconds after it finished brewing (this in a regular coffee maker).

Then at my son's, he had a small 4 cup Mr. Coffee but the pot was stainless steel and it was the hottest I'd ever had from a coffee maker.

I had to look around to find this-I think I got it at Target. Walmart didn't have it and can't remember if Bed Bath and Beyond did.

The only drawbacks of it are it has a small area to pour the water in and when you pour the coffee in a cup, we found if you hold the lid open, it doesn't drip. Its difficult to handclean because the opening is so small but I just put it in the dishwasher occasionally. It does have an automatic shut off (after one hour) and a pause pourer. I'm so glad I found one that makes it really hot!

Thought I would chime in and add my 2-cents worth. I have a BUNN coffee maker. I make coffee in it every morning...drink some and then pour some in a thermos travel mug to take to work. Almost 2 hours after the coffe was originally made, the coffee in my travel mug is still hot enough that it's close to burning my tongue and the back of my throat on its way down. I have to be careful when taking a swig of it. I swear by my BUNN coffeemaker.

--Jeri

My vote for best hot coffee goes to the old-fashioned percolators - a la Farberware. I found one at a yardsale three years ago and for a pot of coffee there's just nothing better.

I use my Keurig only for times when I'm in a hurry or I just want a single cuppa in the late afternoon. I heat the cup before I brew and I'm a black coffee drinker, so it's hot enough for me.

I have the 2.0, and I have never had a problem with the temperature of the coffee being too low. I love really hot coffee, so believe me, I would have replaced the machine long ago. (I also had the Vue, and the coffee from the 2.0 is almost as hot.)

Whlile there may be an issue with your machine, the more likely issue is with the cup you are using. The thermal mass of some cups is such that the coffee is cooled almost immediate with the first cup. I do not have this issue with the mugs I normally used (thin, double-walled glass cups), I do have a heavy stoneware mug that has this problem.

One way to compensate ,rather than microwaving and destroying the taste of the coffee ,is to fill the cup with hot water. As the 2.0 will let one dispense hot water, I generally add hot water, let the cup sit for bout a minute to preheat, then empty the cup and brew the coffee. It seems to work for me, and if it does for you, you will save the trouble and expense of looking for another coffee maker.

My Keurig (not the 2.0 model) has a temperature setting. Mine is on default which I think is 192. I find it to be very hot. If it were any hotter I wouldn't even be able to sip it.

Is 192 not hot enough for some of you? I honestly don't know what it should be. But if you have a temp setting take a look and see if it's set as high as it will go. Mine is located under Settings (where you go to set Time, Auto On/Off, etc.)

I use my Keurig every weekday because I just have to get out the house and I need it quick. Like many of you have said, I microwave my cream or creamer first to retain the heat of the coffee in my mug. On weekends I use my vintage Pyrex glass stovetop coffee pot (I only recommend using this on a gas stove). They are hard to find, but Amazon may have one from a private seller. Gets the coffee blazing hot (and the house smelling absolutely delightful of freshly made coffee), but off course when I go back for a 2nd cup, it has cooled somewhat in the pot.

I want to be able to drink my coffee right out of the maker, so I don't want my coffee to be so hot that I have to wait for it.

If the issue is that the coffee gets cold too fast, you might consider changing the mug instead of the coffee. Putting hot coffee in a cold mug is going to make the coffee cool faster. On very cold days, I use the Keurig to fill the mug with hot water and let the mug warm up before I brew my coffee. You can also switch to insulated mugs to keep it warmer longer. If you really want to take your time to drink your coffee, you can buy a small mug warmer, which is a mini hot plate sized perfectly for a mug. Some plug into wall outlets and some have USB plugs so that you can plug them into your computer.

Last winter my dinner was always getting cold moments after I sat down to eat and my friend suggested warming the plates. It made a big difference and I was surprised I hadn't thought about it before, since I'd been warming my mugs all winter.

Thanks for your replies. I packaged up my keurig 2.0 and back it will go. I have done your suggestions and the coffee is not hot and when using the carafe there is no warming plate so you cannot wait to drink it. It is big and bulky and dissapointing. I had the older model and it was better made but wanted the carafe to make several cups at a time. I think I am over the keurig.

I've been using this model since 2011 and it is great. It has a double-wall insulated stainless-steel carafe. I prepare coffee for the morning the night before and it is still very hot in the am.

Another tip for hot coffee is to preheat your coffee cup or mug, either by microwaving a couple inches of water or filling with hot water.

Love my Cuisinart coffee maker is always hot and love the 2 hour keep hot cycle. In fact, it's so hot sometimes I add an ice cube to cool a bit.

I don't quite understand the discrepancies with the Keurig's. Ours is super hot too. We do make a lot of coffee. Maybe it stays heated up more??
