I live in a small town in AZ and our pizza restaurants are not that good. At Safeways today I saw lots of frozen pizzas - so many brands -does anyone have a recommendation? Some had rising crusts, thin crusts, we are not fussy just would like a pizza that cooks well and of course tastes good.

It would be good to gave one on the freezer for something quick. Thanks for any help.

I highly recommend Tombstone Pizza and DiGiorno Pizza. Both are by the same company. I always have them on hand in my freezer and won't buy anything else.

They have really come a long way with frozen pizza. Any brand/type except for the off the wall cheapies are all pretty darn good.

Those are my favorites too, but I don't care for the rising crusts. Red Baron - not so much.

It's easy to make your own pizza. The crust is easy and you can buy the sauce in a bottle. I've even used french bread as the crust. Just slice it horizontal and add whatever toppings you like and bake.

I like the freshly-made pizzas that they make at King Soopers (Krogers or City Market). They're in the deli section. I don't shop at Safeway so I don't know if they have their own, too.

The take and bake pizzas from store deli's are usual very good. DiGiorno is good. We add other things like mushrooms and extra cheese to frozen pizzas.

I always liked the Safeway store brand Open Nature for frozen pizza, especially its vegetable pizza. But it's gotten harder to find since Safeway was bought by Albertson's. Maybe the Open Nature brand is being phased out, which would be a mistake IMO. Other good brands: Dr. Oetker, Freschetta, and DiGiorno.

I have never found a frozen pizza my family likes, so I stopped wasting money trying to find the right one. I buy Pillsbury refrigerated pizza crusts, Ragu pizza sauce, and we make our own. One pizza crust presses out to the perfect size for 3 of us; half has the toppings my daughter likes, and the other half has the toppings my husband and I like. Finally, everyone agrees this is our best alternative to pizzeria pizza.

Some of the fresh, uncooked pizzas sold by individual grocery stores and Costco can be good. Never found a good frozen one, but here's my solution to making a quick pizza.........

Lightly toast English muffin halves--or the Boboli brand of pizza bottoms--- on a baking sheet, just to the wamed point and they're slightly crusty.

Top with your favorite marinara sauce, ready-made pizza sauce, or plain tomato sauce that you season to taste with oregano, hot pepper flakes, etc.

(I really like the refrigerated Buitoni brand of marinara for its fresh taste and chunky texture). Top the sauce with chopped vegetables, pepperoni or whatever you desire. Add shredded cheese and bake until hot and melty. As I recall, you can find instructions on the Boboli package wrapper.

http://www.boboli.com

I'll throw in Amys which is usually not horribly priced especially the spinach and cheese one.

I also like the idea of make your own. I take the Ezekiel tortillas, some Ragu and shredded cheese and microwave it if you're in a rush and not picky about a true pizza.

The Pillsbury dough mentioned earlier also makes great stromboli if you are marooned as I am where no one even knows what that is.
