I cancelled it, chickened out. Don't know if it will do brown rice and other grains.

Any rice cooker will do brown rice if you adjust the proportions. And the Features tab says it includes recipe cards for 7 dishes, including quinoa, cous cous, and mac and cheese, so I'm guess it handles multiple grains.

I would be more concerned about the size. It does 3 cups of rice. I like to make a big pot of rice at a time and then I freeze it and reheat throughout the week as I need it. That way I don't have to spend 2 hours cooking brown rice for a chicken dish that cooks in 20 minutes and I can use my rice cooker for other things.

I have an Armoa rice cooker and it costs more, but I love it. Mine has buttons for white rice, brown rice, steam cooking, and a saute-then-simmer setting.

You're right. I have an electric pressure cooker that makes perfect rice. It's better to use it and make a large portion once a week, instead of using a mini-cooker. There, I saved more than just $10!

I agree - rice cookers I've seen cook depending on the amount of water. So you put the right proportion of rice to water (white rice takes less water because it takes less time, etc) and it should do an ok job.

Personally, I've cooked rice for decades using a pot with a well-fitting lid and it comes out perfectly every time. No need for another type of machine for rice. I make white rice, brown rice, and wild rice, at different times and they all come out right because you use the right amt of liquid and set the timer for the amount of time each given type of rice needs.

I have a similar one that I got from the local CVS for $6 on sale. It is an Oster that goes for the same price as the L.Garcia one. I use it to cook rice for a meal when I don't have some in the freezer or not cooked for the week.
