TSV pressure cooker - used mine for first time

I have to admit, I was a little scared using it the first time. I went to Kroger and found a $9.00 roast. Salt and peppered and browned it in the cooker - poured one cup beaf broth in and set it for 55 minutes. After it was cooked I released pressure and added potatoes and put on for another 12 minutes. OMG! It was my mother's wonderful roast - the potatoes were so flavorful and the meat you could cut with a fork. I did find at one point there was steam coming out of the "airtight" valve. Quickly opened my manual and found to adjust it so no steam was coming out. I think you have to keep an eye on that valve because I had to adjust it a couple of times. But the results were fabulous! Looking forward to trying more recipes.

Thanks for your post. I have never used a pressure cooker and mine is still in the box. I am scared it might blow up! Your post helped. I've just got to take the leap and try it.

I have to admit I hid out in my living room while it was on just in case. Keep an eye on that pressure valve if the steam starts coming out.

Thanks for your post! I got the TSV pressure cooker too and I keep looking at it on the counter, thinking I really need to just dive in and do it.

Many moons ago, when pressure cookers were all the rage, there was a little bell-shaped thing-a-ma-jig on the top that bounced around as the steam was being released. That was supposed to be a good thing. I always made sure that top piece was very clean and not clogged. Back then there were horror stories about people opening them too soon and stuff flying all over the ceiling! ha!

I'm sure these new brands are much better and I think the sales person mentioned there were around 4-5 safeguards.

It's just so convenient rather than sitting around all day to have your food cook in the conventional way. My roast came out so moist and the potatoes were so flavorful - they picked up the meat flavoring. I don't think they would sell it if they weren't safe, but it does take some getting used to. I'm looking forward to using it as a slow cooker with some soups this fall and winter!

These newfangled electric PCs are a walk in the park compared to my Grandmother's...as a child, all I could see was a hissing, jiggling, snorting, steaming ugly hulking THANG taunting me from the stove. We stayed far, far away from it!

I used a stovetop PC for 50 years with no problem whatsoever and now have a couple of electrics. Safety is the last thing on my mind when I use one. As long as you follow the direction, you are completely safe. I doubt you could get one of the electrics to blow up if you wanted to.

LOL. It seems MANY of us have that TSV sitting on our counter and we're eyeballing it trying to gain enough courage to use it. I will be doing that tomorrow and I admit; I;m a tad scared. However, if it delivers the way the it should, WOW....that will change cooking for me in a huge way!

I have used mine twice . Once for roast yummy and once for lemon rosemary chicken. The rice and chicken were infused with the rosemar flavor delicious. The broccoli was alittle overcooked for my taste but added vitamins. I know they hard boiled eggs but I can't find the recipe anywhere. Help somebody.

Bummer! I just saw that today they are having a clearance price on this item for $41. I paid $67, but.......I thought that was a good TSV price that day, so oh well. The last I heard this morning was that they only had red left.
