Course hair

I am 71 post menopausal with salt and pepper hair and my hair dresser describes it as course. Any thoughts or products I use a shampoo and conditioner specifically for grey hair. Thank you

My hair has always been very fine but thick. It's not coarse so I wouldn't know. However I'm wondering if your stylist suggested some products?

Same hair and type. If you are open to coloring your hair, that will help. Products that are holy grail products for me are Pureology Hydrate shampoo and conditioner. The one thing that makes a huge difference is to get a keratin treatment. I get what's called "Keratin Light" every 8 weeks. It really tames the coarseness and frizziness for about 6 weeks but does start wearing off around that mark.

@I am still oxox I'm still figuring it out too, but I actually use Cantu products which are the best so far, especially their curling creme. (I have curls)

I find if I use their creme, a splash of olive oil for the hair (Hollywood Beauty brand), and then occasionally I will also put in aloe vera hair gel, it's helpful in keeping it in some semblance of order.

I also sleep in a satin cap at night, which does wonders at smoothing in between.

I am an Italian girl , not the customer this brand or products are aimed at, but if the hair fits... you might want to experiment with the ethnic hair aisle and see what works for you.

I just used some Bio Silk on my dry hair it took a bit of the courseness out of my hair. I will use this on wet hair and see how it dries

@I am still oxox - My hair tends to get some frizziness at times, my hairdresser recommended BioSilk, I just use a very small amount and smooth it over my hair before I style it, makes my hair silky and shiny, been using the same bottle for over a year now, a little goes a long way..

You might give the new Perlier conditioner a try. It's really altered my hair texture without being heavy.

Caucasian coarse hair is NOT the same as African American & Black coarse hair.

@I am still oxox I'd deep condition your hair once a week. It'd keep it softer. I stay away from purple shampoo because I've had some bad experiences with my hair turning lavendar in spots since it's silver/white all over.

Your stylist may be able to give you a salon treatment.

I am kind of where you are right now. I always had extremely thick hair with lots of body. I am almost 74 and not until the last year my hair has my hair become very wiry and dry and very prone to frizz! Ugh! It's terrible. I am so disgusted. I hear that coloring one's hair does help a lot with the texture and also might help to give some control and aid with the condition of the hair. I don't know if this is something you might want to do. Maybe make an appointment with a salon and ask them for suggestions of what to do???

I have decided to go on-line and search for a product and start doing regular deep conditioning masks to see if this helps. This also might be something you might want to try.

I have had thick coarse hair all of my life. Used to complain about it but now realize at almost 77 its a blessing. I really Bokkha products. They have a smoothing balm which helps with smoothing. Their shampoos and conditioners are also very nice. I so like Davinnes and Sephora now carries that line.

@Shanus you are so right. The purple shampoo (I use it sparingly to get some yellow at times) but if you use too much of it you will really turn gray and dark. Plus it is so dryng for the hair. My hairstylist mixes it with a regular conditioner (good old Clairol Shimmer lights which i bring with me or I will use there type) for conditioner

Maybe @I am still oxox have you ever tried "its a 10"? Still very popular and good for everything. spray it all over. A few quick sprays goes a long way. Just a thought. About $30.00. Other than that I suggest a really strong conditioning shampoo and conditioner at a salon to tame your coarse hair. It's had a great reputation for years now. good luck.
