Eye Lashes

I used to love to wear mascara and eyeliner. I had nice full lashes, but as I've gotten older my eye lashes are very short and sparse. I am 69. Anyone else with that problem?

Yes, @cusegirl, it happens. There are lash serums that can help but it's often trial & error. If you try one, look for one without prostaglandin or it could change your eye color.

I use DHC Eyelash Tonic nightly, and have for years. It strengthens and conditions my lashes, and they get pretty long from it.

@cusegirl Yes and I refuse to wear mascara since I got an infection once from using it.

Never heard of this stuff but Amazon has it with pretty good reviews so I'm going to give it a try. Thanks!

Thinning sparse lashes is a normal part of aging.

Yes it is very simple. Put on a light and normal looking fake eyelash (lol), a little clear glue and what a difference. Your pretty eyes will pop for sure in a good way. What a difference. I do not use eyeliner, only the lashes (Ardell demi pixies, 102 I think. Packs of 10 or 12 come in at a good price. Duo clear adhesive. Cut to size of eye. Get a few to practice. Takes me one minute at most for both eyes. Brows, then some shadow and smoky under eye rim smudlged lighty good to go. Soft is the word.

Since age 20 I could not stand the rubbing of getting mascara off I was on to something back then. Never stretched the eye. Best.

PS. I only use them now for going out to dinner or a luncheon or event. Not dailly/ Give it time to become an expert. Use a handheld magnifying mirror and cut maybe one lash on side to fit your size. I cut one lash off at end to fit my eye perfectly. If it doesn't fit perfectly it will hurt your inner eye upon blinking, or look weird. We need lift!

PS. this is a basic shot not done right with nightime makeup but the lash as you can see is minimal and not flapping in the wind.

If you want to try the natural remedy, putting a bit of castor oil on your lashes and eyebrows before bedtime helps many people tremendously, thickens them up.

@cusegirl, Yes. I'm 59 and I've noticed the same. I think I haven't done mine any favors as I've curled them for many years. It's probably been rough on them, but old habits die hard... @Ronettes, I'm going to try castor oil; my eyebrows have gotten kind of sparse, too. Thanks for the suggestion!

I live in triple digit heat with single digit humidity. Mascara is a big NO during the summer. Turns my lashes rock hard...like toothpicks.

How gorgeous you are! I wanted to ask you a question - do you have sensitive eyes or any other issues with your eyes regarding sensitivity to eye products? I have always wanted to try small false lashes but was afraid to because of the glue. Also, I am all thumbs, so have doubted whether I could master putting them on. Your application looks so nice and not over-done! Thank you!

Mine used to be very thick and long. After my cataract surgery, I noticed they were very sparse. I'm not sure if they had gotten that way with age and I just didn't notice when my eyesight wasn't all that good. I'm hesitant to put anything on my eyes so I've not tried any of the serums. I do think they've started getting thicker, maybe 5 years after the surgery, but not positive. I wear mascara if I'm going out. Since I'm in my 70s and pretty much "invisible" now, that does fine with me.

When I noticed my lashes thinning out a bit I started using a serum from Amazon that worked. Then they changed the formula and it wasn't nearly as good.

I'm now using SWEED EYELASH SERUM which is EXCELLENT. It has helped my lashes thicken out and they look almost like they did when I was decades younger. I also love Sweed Cloud mascara and normally purchase the 2 in a set (which I get directly from Sweed). They have sales and there are promo codes available too.

@CarolinaGirl88 I also stopped using a lash curler. I switched to a tubing mascara which seems to hold the lashes curled enough for me.

I also had my "floaters" removed with surgery by my retinologist. No lash cutting there, either.

I just wanted to say I started taking an iron supplement which made my lashes grow like crazy!

Yes and some curl the wrong way! LOL I find using a lash curler and BadGirlBang mascara by Benefit is the best. I only wear mascara occaisionally now.
