STILL WEAR PERFUME?

I have a tray full of perfume bottles...some expensive ones...several Chanel, etc.

I hesitate to wear them to restaurants, movies, plays, museums... so I don't offend those around me. I've even had some folks back away in the elevator or tell me their dog is sensitive to perfume.

I perchased a few very "quiet" perfumes like MERIT, Salt and Stone (which is also in my shower as my body wash) & I have Laura Mercier Vanille Ambre...a very mild scent.

Anyone cut back on wearing perfume & think about where it is acceptable?

To be honest, many perfumes and most men's colognes smell like bug spray to me. One of my great fears is being trapped in an elevator with an overly perfumed person.

When I started working in my twenties I wouldn't leave the house without perfume on I think everyone was wearing it back in the eighties and nineties and the men smelled so good with their cologne. As I got older I had to stop the perfumes I wore which weren't cheap were irritating my skin so I switched to the shower gels and moisturizer that were out in the same scents to get that layering affect.

Now a days I have cutback I still have my fall /winter scents that are heavier and my spring/summer scents that are lighter and only wear on certain occasions.

I can totally relate!

I really miss being able to wear perfume without bothering anyone but now I only wear it when I'm by myself, or maybe a little if I am doing errands by myself, but still not too much.

One of my daughter's is very sensitive to smells and has asthma.

The last time I wore it to church, a lady behind me really reacted in a not good way, saying really loudly oh that perfume! or something like that, so I had to leave. I didn't think I had a lot on either. Really embarrassing. And If the "tables were turned" and I was the one who was sensitive, I would have left, not loudly objected, but ce la vie!

I rarely smell it on anyone else these days except our lovely elderly neighbor, who wears a lot of perfume.

I actually miss being able to notice different perfume scents on others now too, even if I don't like it too much.

I have no in a long time. I do like Dolce and Gabbana light blue, it is very light and not like and old lasy scent

Nope.

I happily wear perfume whenever I want to. There are times when I am asked not to for certain medical appointments and I respect that. I try to be mindful and not wear anything too strong if I'm going to be in close proximity to someone else for an extended period of time, like a doctor or dental appointment. Several years ago I overlooked that and wore either Angel or Alien to a dental appointment. First the technician complimented me. Then the dentist (female) raved over it.

Back in the day, everyone knew how to be aware of their own limitations, whether allergies or preferences, and deal with them themself accordingly (wait for the next elevator, get in a different line, take a seat away from others, bring their own safe foods, etc.) but somewhere along the line the public has become expected to kowtow to everyone else, to the neglect of their own preferences and pleasures. Worrying about the possibility of triggering someone thru everything I do sounds virtuous but it's exhausting, IMO.

I wear a small squirt on my skin of Pure Grace. I never spray my clothing.

I don't use the perfumed lotions anymore.

Very, very rarely anymore. I hate getting stuck behind/beside someone in a movie theater or church that just reeks of perfume--no matter how good it may smell--so I just don't wear it myself.

I never did wear much--just a spray on one wrist, then pat wrists together, or a spray on my neck. My mom always told me "if you can smell your perfume on yourself after an hour, you've put on too much!" Now, she didn't mean holding my wrist to my nose & still smelling it, but smelling it wafting around me.

Before the pandemic, I had started to cut down to preserve the limited stash of Fendi which had been discontinued a few years earlier.

Since perfumes changed their staying power, going to another scent made even less sense if I could find one I really liked.

Now smells / scents are troublesome...even the incense at special Masses cause an instant headache and itchy eyes. Folks don't realize how scents go straight to the brain ! One woman at church didn't realize how much she had on: I had to spend the entire service breathing through a wad of tissues because no other seats were available. And, guys your cologne or aftershave can have the same effect.

Just be aware how you are impacting others...if you don't care, that says a lot about you......

I like spritzing on perfumes/EDT/etc, even when I'm not going anywhere. I love pleasing scents. I have never considered being approached by someone who would tell me their dog was sensitive to what I was wearing. I don't douse myself and rarely smell it on myself or my clothing after a very short while. I once worked with a lady who, it seemed, took a bath in very strong perfume and we could tell where in our office she would be at any given time. That was offensive to my nose but she loved it so I would never tell her it bothered me.

No dissapointingly.
At some point (in my 40's) I had to stop because scents were bothering me.

But recently I have decided why. As I hit menopause and after, all of my nasal passages (and EVERYTHING ELSE TOO) have dried up! I believe this accounts for so many issues for me, even my hearing!

I've never worn or ever will wear perfume. I always buy unscented body lotion, deodorant and laundry detergent. I don't want to smell like a flower, vanilla bean, etc. I move away quickly when I encounter someone wearing perfume. Not me, but my friend gets a raging headache even going into a candle store and forget being around someone wearing perfume. Clean soap and water works for me.

@Shanus, I still wear perfume but I find myself using body mists more. But I've been in places where it smells like a person has taken a bath in whatever perfume or cologne they have on.
