Anyone Use Contouring Makeup?

Need recommendations for contouring makeup. I know about Seint, but don't want to spend that much.

I'm not sure what you mean, @Sunshine Kate. I know the technique and using a darker shade of foundation to accomplish it. Is contouring makeup something different?

@Desertdi and @JeanLouiseFinch - I don't understand contouring. Is it used in place of bronzer? Where do you put it? I've seen it placed in the same place as a bronzer but then bronzer put over it? I don't know, I don't understand. Not saying it's bad or wrong, just saying I don't understand it.

@JudyL - good pics from @Desertdi I've heard that contouring reduces and highlighting brings forward. I used to try to contour and I ended up looking like I had a dirty face. I gave up.

Because I have a round face, a makeup artist (I think it was Bobbi Brown) told me to suck in my cheeks, then proceeded to shade underneath. Of course I bought the powder, but when I used it at home it looked like I had mud on my face!

Later I talked to a friend who was an mua and told her what happened. (She didn't live near me.) She laughed and said it was probably better if I didn't try it, unless I was comfortable doing it. She was right!

I'm not great at using bronzer either. I gave mine to DD.

But that IS a nice palette @Desertdi !

I have tried and couldn't master it. I really didn't need an extra step putting on make up.

I use a bit of contour to help create a cheekbone. It's a stick contour, but I brush my brush over it and then onto my face, so it's subtle. It's a mini Westman Atelier stick in Biscuit. I'll use bronzer (different undertone) around the outside of my forehead. I don't use the light colors in the photos provided but I do use an eye brightener under my eyes rather than concealer.

I use Eve Pearl ... the foundation comes with

a smaller deeper shade. It comes with instructions on how exactly to place it on your face and then blend it. It is not very complicated or expensive and I've used it off and on for 15 years. I am 77 years old and I can also apply it to cover age spots or use an amount for lighter coverage. I believe Eve Pearl was a makeup artist and I've enjoyed her products.

It usually comes in a compact of light, medium and dark shades.

I don’t know how old you are but sculpting and contouring doesn’t look good as you get older. Your face already gets gaunt as you get older. Just do a nice bronzer

@Sunshine Kate When I was younger I lightly contoured high on my cheek bones. I blended it in with my blush to look more natural. In the bright sunlight, it never really did. I don't contour now. I do think creams (especially a stick) are easier than powder.

I could do contour for print work though because it's needed to create shadows around the hairline, jaw and under chin (since it doesn't get sun because the chin shadows it) and of course cheeks.

Sometimes it's difficult to choose the right shade and contour is not reddish/orange like a bronzer. You have to be careful if the face is thin and long. It can give a rather gaunt look especially as we age and lose volume in our faces.

@beach-mom I get it. I'm so fair that a bronzer looks strange since it doesn't look natural that someone so light would be in the sun (?!?!). Contour and bronzer can throw off the entire look if shades are not right.

@JudyL If you want to try it out, place your finger on your jaw bone and go above there or it drags the face downward. You really can't go by the diagrams because every face is different...round face slant the contour to narrow the face, but an oblong/oval face can go almost straight across. If you have a light neutral brown cream shadow stick, you can use that.

I can't do it! I don't have the patience or the ability to make it look right. I gave it up! I do well to just get the basic makeup on my face and even that is a challenge most of the time!
