When I was in high school I used to draw the Twiggy undereye lashes (I was as mod as it was possible to be in suburban NJ). Decades later, when I was in my sixties, I met up with a class member who expressed surprise that I wasn't drawing the lashes on anymore! I pointed out that I wasn't wearing go-go boots or mini-skirts either.

@SilleeMee . Well, having gone through that decade I will say. I don't think we knew any better. Make up wasn't as specialized as now. Most of us bought make up at drug stores. Colors were limited, blue, lilac,silver, violet , white, ( deep scream here), and green. And those colors were primary colors, no shades. There was cream shadow mainly, powder came later. Foundation was basic, and all of it was toxic as heck. lol. There were department store cosmetics but older people,shopped there mainly . Teenagers didn't often have money to do that. Sept store colors were limited as well.

@SilleeMee I think today's bizarre eyelashes and over-done eye makeup compete quite nicely with the 1960's for worst makeup. But that's just me. Red eye makeup? Really? A lot of that and the deep grays look like you have been in a bar fight.

I had that Twiggy look omg for about 10 years, from 1966-at least 1977 I wore fake eyelashes, everyday. Never went anywhere without them. Got the Same brand all the time in drug store. They were a more natural length and thickness. I would get dark brown, and use a little mascara to blend them in. They still sell them today. They were like 50 cents when I started , lol. For a while I wore bottom Twiggy lashes. They looked good. I look at old photos, and I did them pretty well. I wore a eyeliner lightly over the lash band. But I don't remember wearing a lot, or wearing shadow. . I remember the late 70's and 1989's for the horrible blue, reddish, and thick, eyeshadow. Sort of like Working Girl, Joan Cusak. I didn't , but I wore Elizabeth Taylor god awful blue for a while. lol. Women were wearing three colors, thick on lids. Omg, with padded shoulder clothing polyester like crazy, and , red, or darker lios. Magenta was popular in mid 80's. lips were often kewpies. ....not a good era for fashion, IMO

The '80s makeup was pretty bad, too. Some say it was the worst decade for makeup trends.

ETA-

I was too young to be wearing mu in the '60s. But I remember seeing my mom with the bright blue eyeshadow, thick false lashes and pale frosty white lipstick...ugh.

@SilleeMee yes bad make up, hair style...permed or big hair, shoulder pads, polyester clothes, huge door knocker shoulder duster earrings. Dark lips, often magenta, or red, heavy Hair spray lol. Bold prints 1980's,

frosted white lips which i loved, to match the frosted white nails. We bought both at a store called American Discount on the main street. Under a dollar for each item.

@smoochy Ohh I loved the frosted lipstick. I forget what year, but it was 1960's sometime. I won a tube of alley oop lipstick from a local radio station. Frosted white, the best one ever!!!! Oh, I was stylin. I used that lipstick to the nubs...had to scoop out with a q tip. lol

I used to love Twiggy and thought that she was just so cool when I was in the sixth & seventh grades! I used to wish I had legs like hers instead of the knock keed tree stumps that I have.

Yes, I also tried to do my eyes like hers but mom wouldn't let me leave the house like that! LOL!

Today, Lesley Hornby still looks great.

@smoochy My favorite color lipstick was Peppermint Twist. Wore that color for years while actually dancing the Peppermint Twist!

ahh the sixties...when $.50/hour babysitting jobs and a five dollar weekly allowance kept me in makeup, dippity do, records and cute clothes. My mom made a lot of my clothes so that was an advantage

I loved the 1960's MOD look, the clothes, the go-go boots, frosted lipstick and eye shadow. And then living in England in the 70's was even more fun, still pretty crazy

I think shoulder pads were a thing of the 1940s! Joan Crawford comes to mind. I'd wear them today if they'd just come back.

OMG--I LOVED the 60's make up and I loved Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton--I lived to be able to buy anything by Yardley of London and did the painted on lashes and the white eyeliner and the pale lips!! I wore go-go boots and short mini shirts/dresses and bell bottoms and short crop tops in wild colors!!! Yessssssss!!!!

At point in the early 60s I did a chalkwhite opaque white lipstick, with a light frosted lipstick over it and topped it off with a stick of clear gloss. The crowds at the mirror in the girl's bathroom at high school were a real thing.
