Hair Help please

my graying hair is normal to oily on the top but very, very dry and brassy looking from about halfway down to the ends. I made the unfortunate decision to have highlights done a little over a year ago and now I'm dealing with this.

I was wondering if anyone here has used Oribe products and what results you have seen, or if anyone can recommend a great product for my issue.

I've used purple shampoos, leave in conditioners, etc. but my hair still needs help.

I HAVE AND USE THE ORIBE GOLD LUST SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER, AND OIL, MariotaMurielle.

I ACTUALLY LOVE THEM AS THEY MAKE MY BLACK/BROWN CHIN LENGTH BOB VERY SHINY AND SMOOTH.

I WILL SAY THAT THE PRODUCTS ARE PRICEY, SO I DO NOT USE THEM DAILY, BUT RATHER SAVE THEM FOR OCCASIONS AND SUCH.

THINK YOU WILL LOVE THEIR PRODUCTS AND THE GOLD LUST IS THEIR MOST POPULAR.

I apply shampoo to my scalp...and conditioner to the ends. Then wash it all out at the same time.

Well, first of all, it's time for at least a trim, as the condition of the ends sound beyond help.

Actually, maybe it's time for an entirely new haircut.

Is it possible that the bottom of your hair has some old color that is making it very dry?

I was going to suggest the same thing as @Tinkrbl44 . How about get a new cut and get rid of all the brassy hair?

To be perfectly honest I have used several high end shampoos including Oribe without much success.

@Desertdi @That's an interesting way to take care of your hair. I am going to try it.

@MariotaMurielle i use oribe products. Find that they are the best (for me). They are pricey but last a long time. Check to see if their site or Sephora has travel sizes. I have brought that size in the past. If you buy from Sephora you can always return. It also sounds like you need a haircut. If you choose to get one also get a deep conditioner. Sounds like your hair is dry.

Highlites will fade out. A nice haircut will help remove the dry pieces and look fresh.

i would use a good conditioning shampoo and conditioner, i really light Pureology in the hydrating formula. You can purchase small bottles, travel size to see if you like it.
my highlites do pretty well,with this routine, but i also have it cut every 8-10 weeks.

I agree that you need a trim. In addition you might try messaging some jojoba oil on the dry ends. It is not expensive and I sometimes use it on my skin too.

thanks for the comments. I agree that I am past due for a haircut. my hair is just below my shoulders and when I originally grew out my color it took about 3 years. then I had the bright idea to get highlights. my hair is layered, so getting a good trim and my layers refreshed will help. I was just looking for some possible options other than what I've already tried to calm down the damage that the highlights obviously caused.

oh well, live and learn. bleach will never touch my hair again

@MariotaMurielle Hair on ends is dead anyway. It's been there the longest, has greater exposure to the elements, styling tools etc.. usually if you trim it off it will make a huge difference. I have all beauty products available to me and at a discount on most. I try them all. But last few years have stuck to my tried and true products. IMO, I find most of Oribe products very drying. I had for many free. I don't care from them. Lots of hype, he has a shop in New York...or did, and started selling at Neimans several years ago and branched out. IMO, Alterna caviar has an excellent moisture lock conditioner you could use once a month they also make a stellar overnight mask that moisturizes and strengthens. There are others I use. But those, and Joico KPAK reconstruct or are my gold standards for years. Also, purple shampoos are extremely drying and can harm hair if used a lot. Those are best used no more than 2 times a month if used continually. Jmho

ETA, IF THE PUPLE STUFF YOU ARE USING IS fanciful rinse, that's ok once a week. But I assume you are using the purple shampoo for blonds or gray hair to retain or enhance color??

I shampoo my hair 2 x a week and have been using Joico purple shampoo about once a week alternating it with Joico Defy Damage. I thought it would brighten my gray and tone down the brassiness of the highlights. maybe I should use the purple less often if it is drying. I use Joico conditioner from about midway down to the ends every time I shampoo. .

I didn't know about the Joico KPAK, so will check that out also.

@MariotaMurielle There is big difference between some of the Joico Products, and their KPAK. RECONSTRUCTOR. I think they have a Joico comditioner that is different from KPAK reconstructor. Alterna products are pretty good, at least the conditioners. They aren't cheap, but what hair product isn't. The purple shampoos actually have a lifting product in them, and the purple is a colored rinse product , the purple tones counteracts gold and redness, that is drying. I wouldn't use it but every other week.

You wanna hear a funny one? NOBODY in my family gets gray...until they are at least 90.

I have natural soft-black hair (#2 on the color chart)...and people have told me to QUIT DYING IT.

I have heavy highlights...mostly so I don't look like Morticia Addams.

Once a week, I use a purple shampoo. I've used Matrix So Silver shampoo for years. It brightens my gray and conditions all my hair. I don't use the purple leave-in when I use this shampoo.

@MariotaMurielle Several months after being grey, I noticed my hair was more dry than usual and even my usual deep conditioner (Shea Moisture..drugstore) was not repairing the frizzy areas.

When I went for my next haircut, my hair stylist applied a very deep professional conditioner and I sat under a hooded dryer/steamer for it to penetrate. All was cured after that and I have that treatment repeated twice a year.
