PRP Injections

Has anyone had experience with this:

A PRP injection has five to 10 times as many platelets as a normal blood sample would. Healthcare providers inject this platelet-rich plasma into diseased or injured tissues. The growth factors in the platelets may aid in improving your symptoms. They can also lead to faster wound healing.

I am 73 and in need of a some help! Of course, I will go to an aesthetician but trying to do some research on my own first. This seems to last longer than other procedures?

I considered PRP injections as part of of a protocol to grow my hair back after a hospital stay and hair loss. The PRP procedure involves a blood draw with a pretty large needle! It was painful and I wasn't even able to get enough blood out ( due to anxiety) for the full procedure. I wish you the best of luck.

What is the procedure you are looking into? I have heard it helps with age related hair loss.

To know whether it would help, it would be good to know what results you are looking for.

@pietook I’ve only had it so far with a surgical procedure, recommended by the dr to help with healing. I did get a package of three micro needling sessions with prp for a birthday gift but I haven’t gone in yet. I’ll report back after the sessions.

You mention this is cosmetic. I an always interested in skin care and read a lot about it, and have never heard of this helping. Found webpages from the Cleveland Clinic and the American Academy of Dermatology about a vampire facelift. I did read about this many years ago and not since, which makes me think it is not that effective.

According to this webpage there are very limited studies on its effectiveness, and the results are unpredictable.

This is injected with hyaluronic acid, which is a filler, and I have been reading a lot of bad things about lately. It doesn't stay where you put it.

I searched images for before and afters and they were mostly of young women to get rid of acne scars. Of hundreds of photos posted by offices offering the procedure, I only found a couple of older ladies. I will try to post them here, but if I can't, you can google and find them.

The first 2 ladies look younger than 73 to my eyes. All the other before and afters I saw online looked like much younger ladies. You may want to keep in mind these are probably their best results, because they want to sell the procedure.

PRP ---platelet rich plasma--is used for healing injuries and certain other conditions--it comes from your blood which is drawn and processed while you wait. It has some healing properties but there is another type of injection that contain far more concentrated stem cells that comes from donor amniotic fluid. It has alot more of the good stuff than PRP. Have looked into this quite a bit for my ankle that I broke a couple years ago and am still having problems with. Never heard prp for cosmetic things. I know that those injections are not covered by Medicare and are about $1000 each. So the cost of this for cosmetic things prob will cover that cost. And the outcome is not always successful. Sorry but I see very little changes in the B and A of those pics.

I would love to try it for my arthritic knee, most ortho docs dont do it, usually a center for Arthritis Care does it, but Medicare does not pay for it.

@pietook yes! And I highly recommend them , for me anyway. They work or they don't. Insurance doesn't pay, so it is usually our of pocket. They do mix PRP with peptides or enzymes sometimes, I have had PRP in both hips and one knee. I have had stem cell in other knee, I have had fairly good luck. Mind you I am a severe case of hip pain. I have severe osteoporosis and although I have needed a hip replacement for a few years, I cannot as my osteo is too bad. I have chose not to use bone treatments because of chance of issues with afib and previous cancer. I use walker, and need power chair.

the PRP in hip has to be done under fluoroscope. But Stem cell doesn't . I am going to tomorrow for stem cell in left hip. My left hip is the worst. . Both take a while to actually work well I felt a tiny relief at first,then more relief after first week. After several weeks I feel better. It doesn't cure the pain all the way or cure my problem. But helps me live better and more comfortably.

i knkw you have read up, but just remember some people love it, others have no relief. Feel free to ask any questions

@wagirl the stem cell, workers better for me. No Medicare doesn't pay. They are 2500@ here. But when you are in pain and desperate for relief, any relief. Worth every penny. I am getting one in hip tomorrow. I hadn't heard of PRP for cosmetic. I have had PRP. it took a long time to work a bit. It only helped on one knee. The other it didn't do much at all.

Yes. The surgeon mixed my PRP in with the bone graft material to make what they call 'sticky bone' which is then applied directly into my socket where the sticky bone adheres to my bone. The PRP helps the graft grow and fuse to my own bone so the recovery time is decreased significantly.

Thanks for your reply @Carol Diane.. I looked at the second picture I posted and I was thinking this might help with my eye troughs, which I don't think are as bad as that lady. But this is a filler, and I have heard bad things. So I don't have to think about that!

Thinking of saving for a face lift... 🤔
