As a retiree I don't need to wear much makeup, but I would like something real easy to put on my face to even out the skin tone.

I have used Laura Geller Balance n Brighten in the past, it was easy to apply but it was so long ago. Bare Minerals has a newer foundation out, apply with a sponge (which seems tedious), but ladies are liking it.

Can anyone advise me to the advantages (ease of application, coverage, color range) for each? I am letting my gray hair grow in, and feel like I may need to re-start a simple makeup routine to keep from looking horrid.

Thank you.

Good morning! Okay, so here's my thoughts.

I've used...and liked...LG B&B for years. The Medium was a good shade on me. I liked the ease of the powder with the little retractable brush. I never got really good coverage under my eyes, like LG says, but I always use a concealer and swipe a little B&B over my eyes to blend it all. It's been fine.

I was intrigued the other day about the new BM product. I ordered the Medium Beige, and the color is a very good match. I think regular Medium or the other color past Medium Beige would not have worked so I'm happy with my color. I do not like using the sponge. I know they really recommended giving it a try - and I did - but maybe there's a learning curve. I have a flat-top brush that I find I prefer using instead of the sponge. I like the coverage. It's not a heavy coverage, I think this product makes my skin look brighter than the B&B. I never really got a "brightened" look from the B&B, and I think I just kept using it because it was easy. I'm sticking with this new BM product and am glad I got on the A-D.

BTW, I am 61, oily skin, skin's in pretty good shape, no real issues. I do not like using any primer (maybe I haven't found my holy grail product yet!) or moisturizer under the makeup. I live in FL and don't like so much "stuff" on my face. In fact, I look forward to taking it all off as soon as I get home.

That's just my opinion. I'm glad you started this thread and look forward to what others have to say.

Enjoy your day :-)))

I've used It Celebration Foundation for several years and have loved it until the past two orders-they are VERY drying. Not sure if the change is my aging skin or the cosmetic. So I just ordered the Balance and Brighten to try it, should arrive today. I used it in years gone by but found it 'flaky' and that it made my skin ashen but am anxious to try the new formula and color palette. I've loved her eyeshadows and liners, so am lookng forward to trying this!

I am 67, with normal skin, not dry, not oily. I do wear makeup every time I leave the house. How much depends on where I'm going. I have tried and and tried to use Balance-n- Brighten and couldn't get a good shade match. Depending on the shade, it's either too pale looking or muddy. I like LG when I watch her but I can't make the B-n-B work. It's also made with talc and has a powdery look and accents lines and wrinkles, IMO. It also made my face feel dry. I bought the new Bare Minerals pressed "powder" and like it a lot. It's talc free, too, which is a big plus. I'm even thinking of doing a second Auto Delivery plan. My recommendation is the Bare Minerals pressed foundation.

Geller still uses talc, that is a deal breaker for me. But, the new BM still has Bismuth Oxychloride in it, also can be a deal breaker, can be very irritating.

I've tried B nB many times, different shades. It never evens out my skin tone as promised and always leaves a dull muddy finish.

With Bare Minerals loose foundation I have a better shade match and light coverage. Like it a lot.

Doll 10 compact foundation is a favorite. I apply with either a kabuki or flat top brush. Looks natural yet covers my dark spots and redness pretty well for a light weight powder.

For reference, I'm 73 with very dry skin. Some wrinkles.

I have both brands of the powder foundation. I think LG balance and brighten, is way too yellow for my light warm tone. Bare E is a better choice, but I am using the bisque for my foundation now as well as the mineral veil ---both are powder. I mix them together than brush it on.

I have used both LG BnB and the new BM compact powder foundation as well as the loose version.

Hands down the BareMinerals compact powder foundation/loose foundation wins. The shade is a much better match for me - Medium Beige 12 - the finish is fabulous and the coverage is good for me too. Also, the fact that it is talc-free is important. It lasts and looks good on me all day. Doesn't look dry or feel dry like the Laura Geller BnB.

Laura's BnB is not talc-free. Also the shade match has never been good for me. It is drying on my normal - not to dry not to oily - skin and shows everything. Don't like the way it looks at all. Have tried multiple times to make this work for me and can't. Gave up on it.

I used Bare Minerals powder foundation years ago (15-20 years) and although my skin was on the more oily side back then it made my face look and feel dry and splotchy. now that I'm much older I'm more on the normal side of the spectrum. I have LG B&B foundation and usually use it over tinted Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue.

when you use the new BM product do you apply a primer first?

I haven't tried the new bareMinerals one, but I might!

I do like and use LG Balance & Brighten GLOW. I have the Regular one too, but the Glow gives my normal/combination skin a perfect look. One of the first times I used it someone at work told me I had beautiful skin. Of course you never forget a compliment like that!

For a medium coverage I use a 3-step system that works for me.

But lately I've been using No Makeup Makeup. The first few times I used it I did not like it. Then I learned HOW to use it. I was putting more on because I couldn't "see" it. I followed the 3-dab approach and stippled then brushed it all over. Perfect look! And it stays on!

I guess I'll chime in...67, normal to dry, good skin, a few lines...been a B&B user, medium, for 20 years. Never use liquid foundation, never liked it or the effects on my skin, so I liked the light touch B&B gave me of just softening my look, (not sure that's the right way to describe it...but "evening out skin tones" as LG would say)...the slight blurring effect, without heavy color or product on me. Never dried me out, never looked muddy. Not an obvious look on me but enough. @beach-mom I've never tried (or even heard of B&B Glow?!...I may give that a try! Sounds like I have similar skin to yours, and same results with B&B.)

All that said y'all have me curious now about the new BM pressed powder. I've always tuned it all out, because B&B was enough for me.

I do have old items from the past that either my mom bought and gave to me, or my old loose powder BM from the days I'd buy all those sets...and now and again I'll swipe some Mineral Veil over me...always like the effect.

BM loose powder foundation never looked right on me...not natural, was drying. No good color match, no matter what color I'd try, looked good or natural on me...I don't know why, I've kept pots of it over the years, anyway!

Other two compacts I have that also look nice on me...PTR, sheer powder (no shade, universal one shade) and IT pressed powder....I wear that when I want a little more coverage than everyday B&B which is more subtle on me, very light touch.

Out of ALL those B&B has been my one consistent for years, but I may have to give this new BM a try. OR B&B Glow. I'm thinking the gals that didn't like B&B on themselves probably look better in BM than I will, since I actually liked B&B.

Interesting to see everyone's experiences with all the products.

@smoochy

What brand kabuki do you use? I have the original BM one but I can't find it. That was the only one that let me buff the loose foundation for the perfect finish.

I have been a long time user of B&B but have not tried the Bare Minerals yet. I am not generally a fan of loose powders as I find them to be messy.

Regarding B&B and the issues regarding finding a shade that matches, I agree to a certain degree. I am fair but not pasty white. The very lightest shade is too light and the next shade is too dark, so I combat that by using the very lighest shade first and then use a dusting of the next shade over and this seems to work really well.

As for the Bare Minerals, I read that there is a newer powder that is not loose but I am hesitant to try because most powders don't usually work well for mature women, as they accentuate fine lines.
