Eyeshadow Primer

I recently replaced the Too Faced? Glitter Glue with NYX Glitter Primer since the GG had been discontinued and I read that the NYX was a good dupe. At the same time, I picked up the NYX Ultimate Shadow & Liner Primer since I was also getting low on my regular eyeshadow primer.

I like the NYX Glitter primper, but the NYX Ultimate is too grabby for me. Looking for Recs.

I bought a glitter glue off Moira cosmetics. Works perfectly fine I think. Around 6 dollars. Is if that's all you get you have to pay shipping.

@Icegoddess - What about Wet & Wild or Elf shadow primer?

Amazon has W & W for 4.98 and Elf for 7.00. Milani for 6.77.

I've used the Milani eyeshadow primer and it's worked fine. Now I'm using MAC Painterly shadow in the pot and like it better.

@Icegoddess Most stick shadows that say waterproof or long lasting also are a great primer. I use a cream colored one from Laura Mercier, but I can also wear it alone on "no makeup makeup days". Any light neutral shade that you find in Ulta, drugstore or Target, etc. will work fine. I also use MAC Painterly in a pot like @JudyL .

***I will put a light dusting of setting powder over it if using powder shadows. If I put a cream shadow it isn't needed.

I use Mac BARE STUDY, which gives my lid and up to my brow a beautiful glow.

I've used NARS for years. During covid, it was pretty much impossible to find so I tried other brands. Nothing could compare. I've learned my lesson and keep two extras in my HBA closet. I'm in my 70s and my eyelids are pretty hooded now. My eyeshadow and liner stays on all day long. I spend a few hours a day on the computer and am an avid reader so those lids get quite the workout.

The Milani eyeshadow primer is my all time favorite...my shadow never creases. Bonus: it is not expensive.

@Shanus So, you're saying the Painterly needs a powder over it if using powder shadows? What does it do if you don't? Does it grab and not blend well? That's the problem I'm having with the NYX. I mostly wear powder shadows. @JudyL do you have a problem with powder shadows with it?

@Icegoddess - I don't have a problem with powder shadows but, like Shanus, I have always lightly powdered my eyeshadow primers whether that be the Milani or the Painterly. Just feel that the shadows will blend easier but I've seen people not do it too. Sometimes I'll take a light shadow from the palette I'm using and use that instead of a translucent powder. Think it's a matter of personal preference.

I also have the Moira crème eyeshadow pot in beige. Much cheaper then the MAC. Between this and the glitter glue my eyeshadow lasts really well. I will take a little loose powder over it in the areas I don't use shimmer. Then the glitter glue goes where I use a shimmer.

@JudyL Thanks, I tried that yesterday with the NYX primer and it was still too grabby and hard to lblend. Didn't help that I was using a Juvia's Place eyeshadow which is highly pigmented.

Well shoot @Icegoddess - It may be the NYX primer is a really "grabby" primer. Usually if I use a powder or eyeshadow, I don't have a problem. Maybe try the Milani primer?

@Icegoddess Most of the time I wear a beige or nude powder shadow, so using that over Painterly kind of sets it. Used on it's on, it's OK but I don't have oily eyelids. If you do, I'd set it w/ a neutral shadow or setting powder.
