Light weight foundation please...

As old as I am, you'd think I'd know this by now. I've used IT foundation for years but now, even with just the tinest drop blended into my hands before applying, it still seems to be to heavy for my liking. What would you recommend as a bare minimum makeup foundation? Thank you kindly.

Well I don't know your skin @sarahpanda, or how much coverage you need and want, and I feel when most women ask for a foundation they mean liquid. That said...I've always felt liquid foundations "felt heavy" and never have used or liked them.

But I don't need heavy coverage. So for me...I've used Laura Geller's pressed compact powder/cream, Balance and Brighten for about 20 years now...it's my go-to, everyday. Just blends out and brightens my complexion, with light coverage I don't feel on me.

I do listen though to makeup influencers (Hot & Flashy, Risa Does Makeup and Melissa55) and take note of ones they love, as I sometimes think I'll buy one for more coverage for dressy or evening occasions, when I might do a little more make-up. Melissa loves, loves one of the Nars foundations, (there's more to the name, and I think more than one Nars, but I forget now the exact name.) I tried the Nars once in Sephora and really liked it. Seemed lightweight, went on very nice, I liked the light look on me.

I like Nars products; I use their concealer.

Hot and Flashy loves the Dior, which is "spendy" as she says, but she also gives more afforable ones she likes too.

I believe all these ladies have done videos just on foundations, but go to YouTube and type in the search their channel names and "foundation" and things will come up.

Maybe a tinted moisturizer would be good to try instead of foundation. There's no shortage of brands to try.

@sarahpanda @SilleeMee Yes! Another great suggestion for someone who doesn't want traditional foundation!

I bought Maybelline BB cream (inexpensive) on Amazon last year, which I sometimes use for extra coverage. It has SPF in it too.

I'd love to find a truly lightweight foundation (with light coverage) that doesn't make my skin oily. I want a fairly matte look and feel.

I've tried oil-free, powders, all kinds and brands. They all feel so heavy on my skin or trigger the oiliness.

I quit wearing makeup when I retired, mostly because I couldn't find a foundation that worked for me.

I really don't care what others think about my old makeup-less face but I'd like to have something that works socially and for special occasions.

@sarahpanda Since I always wear SPF, I use a tinted one that evens out my complexion. Any other coverage comes from a lightweight concealer that's the shade of my face not the lighter one I may use under my eyes.

I have very textured skin at 62 that has dry patches as well as oily patches, and after trying numerous $$$ primers at Ulta before applying numerous $$$ liquid foundations from there, I finally chose a combo with the help of an associate. I got it home, applied it, and just wore it around the house to see if I liked it and what it would do on my face. Egads! The color became VERY "not good," and I felt like my texture was highlighted. Blech.

Returned those and tried Pur mineral foundation (powder) with IT Bye Bye Pores Lite primer. Ding, ding, ding! That was a winner for me. But the primer was so expensive, that I switched to a Cover Girl water-based primer, and while not as good, it works okay, since I'm not gone from the house hour after hour after hour. It is very light-feeling, but I know mineral/powder foundations are not for everyone. Is it perfect? No. But I can get medium coverage without looking like I'm wearing a mask or having every pore on my face highlighted, so I continue to purchase it.

Perhaps more of a tinted moisturizer would work for you. I'm in my later 60's, so I have the same problem. I have Rosacea, so I only wear makeup for special occasions. When I do wear it, I've found that Almay Smart Shade Skintone Matching makeup works well for me. It doesn't cause a flair up. It doesn't settle in my fine lines. I use to use Bare Minerals powder, but as I've aged it makes my skin look too dry.

There's a channel on Youtube called "60 and Me." It's very helpful for older ladies. She talks about makeup, travel, aging well, and other things we would be interested in.

How about using a primer with just a few drops of your foundation in it? I do this all the time. Most liquid foundations are way too eavy for me these days--kind of like making your own BB or CC cream. I have so many bottles of foundation---never used to be a problem but now at age 70, I find a lighter one works well. I have Laura Gellers spackle as well as Smashbox primer too--but any primer will work. I hear the brand ELF is also good.

....after skincare, a good concealer can do a good job when applied only where needed. On many women it's all that's needed for every day wear. Sometimes covering the face with a foundation at our age can settle into pores and wrinkles and not do us any favors.

Even a lightweight foundation applied all over can give the face a flat look when all one color.

I am with you on the Laura Geller B & B powder. A few years ago I switched from IT CC foundation and love the smooth, light look of B & B. Under it I use Paula's Choice tinted SPF moisturizer.

On Thanksgiving this week up state at my SIL's, she and her neighbor were in at my shoulders at the appetizer table under a bright light. My SIL kept looking at me and told her friend " She just had her 80th last week....no way does she look it ". Her friend looked more closely and agreed.

Last week I stopped by my hair salon to drop off a package. I jokingly said to the owner, thought you'd be singing the Birthday song. Of course he began but wanted to know how many. No, really...I think you only say that because you're really 70 and just want folks to say you really look good for 80.

I should have bet money for the date on my Real ID driver license !

Ok, I am 62, and have crummy skin due to stupid sunburns as a dumb kid- It's very crepey, wrinkly around my eyes but also a lot of darkness there, so it's always a challenge toget some brightness without a pasty, cakey look- Foundations are too opaque, pasty, and tinted moisturizers don't give me any coverage-

So very recently I saw on FB an add for Perbelle, a skin -tone adjusting CC cream with SPF.

Honestly, the demos totally got me! Mostly mature ladies with same problems I have!

I ordered and have just used it and it is really an answer for me!
Go to the website Perbelle.com and check out the videos- So far, I love it! Yes, today call me the enabler! 🤣

I have given up the want for foundation, I have never found a single one that didn't settle into fine lines, and make my pores look more visible. I see this on other Woman as well. To me, it's aging on most. I am lucky in that I don't need it, I have some freckles, but I love them so I don't want to cover them anyway. What I use when I want a flawless look, is a very good high end lightly tinted face powder. It makes my skin look flawless.

I recently got a sample of ANASTASIA foundation from Dillards - light to medium coverage. She gave me two samples...I have tried both and go back and forth as to the color. I think the color is spot on at times and then I think as the day goes on the color changes. I don't know if it just me or the foundation.

From previous experience I find I have to go into the store for a sample or help with color match.

@sarahpanda - Have you ever tried applying with a damp sponge? I've used IT for years and the damp sponge makes all the difference in the world.

@Skyegirl21 - I've seen all the demos on Facebook too. I think the product works great for those with a light complexion.

I saw a lady do a demo that had a medium complexion and the final result came out too light for her skin tone. All the commments stated the same thing.

@sarahpanda I have old/combo-oily/easily dehydrated/breaks out from everything skin.Yay.

I love Fenty Pro Filtr Soft Matte Powder Foundation. I apply it with a Real Techniques Miracle Powder Makeup Blending Sponge. Who decides on these long drown out names!

I can blend it lightly & then add more coverage where I want it. The flocked sponge helps camoflauge any texture I have.

When I want more coverage or just feel like it, I use Mac Studio Fix Fluid. It looks especially light & pretty when I mix it with Daniel Sandler Moon Glow Watercolour Illuminator.

I bought Chantecaille Future Skin Oil Free Foundation on sale, because I have read for years how fantabulous it is. Well it is very lightweight. It doesn't break me out. Zero coverage, I would say.

I have tried primers, but never found them to help with my oil.

I use Cosrx Oil Free Ultra Moisurizing Lotion with Birch Sap under my foundation & it hydrates my skin but doesn't make me get greasy or oily through the day.

Good luck. You got some good advice to sift through.

My go-to foundations are Nars Sheer Glow and Armani Luminous Silk. That is what I wear mostly for church, but would also wear for a special occasion. Nars came out with something else I think they wanted to replace the Sheer Glow with since Sephora removed Sheer Glow from their B&M stores. I don't remember the name, but I didn't care for it.

A very nice lightweight skin tint is Fenty Eaze Drop. That's what I would use for shopping or meeting friends for lunch. Otherwise, I'm mostly bare-faced and don't worry about people seeing me that way.
