Your opinion on how many lipsticks are necessary

I know many here are lovers of lipsticks and glosses like I am and just can't get enough!

However, I actually know a couple women who actually don't have this addiction, or whatever you call it, and buy one lip product and use it until it's gone and then purchase another! They have one lip product and only one at a time!

Are there others here who do this? I am actually envious of these ladies. It really simplifies the makeup process, cuts down on the storage issue and also cuts down on expense!

I keep telling myself to just have one and get rid of the rest! I have looked through my collection and think --- well, which one would I pick? I just can't come to a decision! Maybe it's because I have never really found the one real product and color that I think is perfect for me!

My dear Mom only ever had one lip product and she was fine with it.

Any thoughts regarding this????

In my case, it's the formulas I have to watch out for. And this is my perfect set-up! However, this means if one of them becomes rare, it's back to the drawing board!

@AngelPuppy1 ENDLESS ... there is no number for me.

I love so many and enjoy them all. I have dozens and dozens. Plus, I get so many different looks from each of them based on how I apply. LOVE lip products. Not a lip gloss fan, but love shiny lips most of the time, which I get from a lot of the lip balms, crayons, lipsticks.

Well how many would you estimate you have?

I like lipstick/gloss and have maybe 10-15 if I count the old ones I still hang on to but rarely use. Not a huge amount as some are multiples.

One lipstick and one gloss here. Both have been discontinued, but I have a backup of each in the refrigerator. lol I have no clue what I'm going to use when they're gone.

Suggestion: you can narrow down the huge assortment. Start with the 3 you seem to use most of the time. Create an index card for each: brand / Name / smear of the color at the top. Use this card to test and compare similar colors, I.e., dark reds, peaches,or a third dominant color family that you are drawn to. Try to limit yourself to testing one or two in a session as the eyes will be less sharp the more you sit and continue.

As you try the first dark red, how does it compare to the index card smear of that family ? Simply yes or no. The "No" goes into discard. Keep a name list of these and a list of the "Yes" in case you want to rethink them as you close in to the real favorites. ( You may want to create an index card for each with a smear until your project is done.

Continue until you have completed the checking. Do you see a trend or pattern within the dark reds? The peaches?

If you keep the 3 color families separate, all the "Yes" tubes can be further studied to see which tubes are your top #'s......this should help you decide which are staples and stay in prime space. Those are the ones you may want to have multiples of in case one gets discontinued.

The object is to save you time, space and $...... You can have a manageable number of tubes for use. At some point, it may become obvious to you that indeed you do have a select few.

There are about a half dozen shades that really look best on me. After that, I narrow things down with how well they wear.

My current favorites are: Lisa Eldridge, Lancome & MAC. So, again, about a half dozen.

But that is not how many lip things I have tucked away, and I am seriously thinking about chucking them out altogether.

My DM had about that many, too. She also always used her lipstick for blush.

@AngelPuppy1 Many years ago, I opened all (several dozen) lipsticks in my drawer and took an inventory. Most were so close in color that it was uncanny. I always gravitate towards a neutral pink/beige or rosey tone and a clear or light pink gloss. I only had a half dozen of those...some w/ glitter).

I tried them on and the ones that made the cut were more judged by formula, staying power, comfort on the lips, etc. I do wear lip liner in a neutral shade that matches my lips, but colored liner can completely change the shade of a lipstick which could make it easier to toss some of the tubes.

@AngelPuppy1 I forgot to add that I do keep 2 brighter shades for special times when I'll be in family pics or for parties, etc. when I'm more dressed up.

I have many more lipsticks that I can possibly use and I will probably buy more. It is a little extravagant purchase that makes me feel good and so well worth the price.

Three. One peach toned, one pink toned, one neutral. Find three that look good when you look in a full length mirror, dressed nicely.

Nobody but you sits and stared in a 20x mirror at your lipstick. Find three that give a good impression at a conversation distance and forget about it.

I haven’t worn lipstick in years. I switched to tinted lip gloss. Works better for me. I like the more “natural look.”

I have sooooo many and most, I don't use!! Why??? Am not a lipstick fan really--like balms mostly---I got them in the various beauty boxes and none were really my color--should just toss them
