FYI: I have always had problems with my blush turning orange on me no matter what color I got. And never knew shy.The other day a makeup artist told me to wear a purple blush,( no it doesn't look purple on your skin) it just turns to a nice pink color. Because purple cancels out yellow in the skin. I bought the Tower 28 cream purple blush and love it no more orange color on my skin just a nice flush of color that looks natural.

@cuddlesmama Yes, she's/he's correct. That's why so many foundations have a yellowish or neutral tint...it cancels out the pink in the skin. This leaves us with a blank canvas to begin makeup adding blush, bronzer, etc. Pink/purple/fushia blushes are good choices.

I've NEVER been able to figure out what my undertones are. Yellow, pink? I don't know. I've tried the vein test, I've tried to figure out if I look better in gold or silver. I've tried to decide which color clothing I look better in. Ugh. Can never figure it out.

Hi @Citrine1 Mine are bluish green too. Any green to the tone means yellow undertones.

Generally, that means you have neutral undertones. Try the Estée Lauder counter for further proof. They can give you a computerized read-out. The machine they use seems accurate to me as many women I know have finally figured their undertone with it. Neutrals can wear gold and silver equally as well. Most makeup companies now have a good selection of suitable makeup for our skin tone. Good luck @Citrine1.🌼

Edited to add.. @Citrine1 be sure you wear no makeup for the consultation. It can throw off the result.

A couple of years ago, I met with a consultant at ULTA, but she was very vague and not all that helpful.

Most likely if it's that difficult to see blue or green veins, gold or silver jewelry, etc., it means a neutral undertone.

I have a pink undertone, but always prefer neutral foundations because I find it covers the pink so I don't need extra concealing.

there's also your overtone to throw into the confusion of undertone. Most neutral foundations lean very heavily on the orange side, if you swatch foundation on white paper you can get a sense of what the undertone is. Since I'm a light Olive with cool yellow undertone I never find a one and done shade. Never.

i have a complete arsenal of green , blue, and lavender correctors to mix in depending on what is needed to adjust the shade

I have rosacea which makes my cheeks a pinky red so I do what @Shanus does and use a neutral tone foundation to help conceal my brightly beaming cheeks.

Hi @Citrine1 @cuddlesmama I see a lot of opinions on make-up, which I agree. There are external factors other than skin undertone that affect make-up color, like, how does one's skin take color and skin conditions, which is why I didn't weigh in on the blush color. There are too many considerations re color and I definitely couldn't write about them all.

My understanding is that neutral undertone means one has veins that are blue AND green, not bluish-green.

I don't think skin undertone is the only thing that matters for picking colors, but I am sure others think different.

And colors look different on different lighting, which we discussed on another thread. I remember buying a brown suit in Saks that was green when I got home!

Honestly, I think we can just choose what we like, but try with different lights.

I have found some you tube videos by make-up artists that discuss choosing foundation color considering undertone AND other factors that would impact. They discuss lighting as well. You may find them useful if that interests you. Sorry I don't have anything on blush, but I am sure it's out there.

@Citrine1 if you hold a drape of color or t-shirts close to your face with no jewelry on which colors make your face "pop", look less tired? -- THOSE ARE YOUR COLORS!
If a color held under your chin close to your face makes you look more tired, and in these colors your face seems to recede --AVOID THOSE COLORS!
