When I was working I never wore makeup b/c I had to wear protective face masks, goggles and head gear. Today I rarely wear any makeup but I do take care of my skin with a good daily routine.

ETA-

My mom was ahead of her time with skincare. She taught me to always protect my skin from the sun and to always wash your face before bedtime. Thanks mom!

Yes-- I have done exactly what OP did--was in a wheelchair with a broken ankle in 2022 and some days there was NO WAY I wanted to mess with my face--was lucky to get into the shower at times--and my skin survived. I too have good genes and have been taking very good care of my skin since my teen age years--and being retired I don't wear make up unless I go out. So can totally relate!!

Like you I have good intentions but many times it is just that - intention. Over the years I have tried many lotions and potions and honestly have not seen any change. I don't care how many before and after shots they show, I don't get those results at all. Since the pandemic I stopped wearing foundation, but that hasn't changed my skin either way. Done falling for the hype and just wash my face and moisturize. My skin looks pretty good for my age, but I believe after a certain age nothing much helps or we'd all like we were in our 40's.

@QVCkitty1 wrote:

I have the best of intentions with my skin care routine, but since I've been retired ( about 10 years) it's been hit and miss.

I believe what the OP describes is absolutely true. I have clean, moisturized skin and it looks pretty great for 70. My derm always compliments my skin. She asked me what I do and when I told her how simple I keep it, she just smiled and said great job. Too many people over exfoliate and piling on layer after layer of cream does no good. Only 1 layer will help. Sunscreen everyday.

I also stopped wearing foundation when I was working from home during the pandemic. I prep my face in the morning with hydration spray, vitamin c and moisturizer with SPF but only wear lip balm, eye liner and eye brow pencil. At night I wash it all off. That's the extent of my skin care routine. I am comfortable with how I look and have no interest in using any other skin care.

good genes from both parents, I've always had a nice complexion. And have used various skin care lines over the years. My observation is, after a certain age it doesn't matter what you do. Like say, seventy. You are old. You're going to look old. My great skin is sagging, wrinkling, has brown spots, areas of discoloration. A little make up helps give me a more refreshed appearance. Brightening concealer in the dark corners of eyes, a dab of concealer on the age spots. Then my new best friend, Radiant Complexion Cream in Rose. A super sheer light wash of tint that gives me a subtle glow. Eyebrow pencil. Lip tint. I only do this face if I'm leaving the house. Otherwise, wash face and moisturize. I am finally accepting of how old age looks on me. Grateful for products that can give my face a bit of life, lol

The giveaway here is freckles, which generally go with light skin.

My mom as well!! We both had/have unbearable dry skin, to the point, even from the time I step out of the shower and reach for moisturizer, my skin HURTS! My feet crack and hurt like mad, like moms did... now, I know I am dating myself, but mom had me using Ponds cold cream before I was even 12!

The last year or so I have hardly done anything beyond washing and moisturizing when I think of it. To my surprise my skin has never looked better. I guess in this case less is more. I've never been a sun worshipper and I have pretty good genes, however in my old age I need less product. Have any of you found this to be true.

@QVCkitty1 Absolutely true 100 percent for me. I have been retired for 8 years now and when I did retire, I started paying more attention to skin care and adding anti aging products. Huge mistake.

In the last 8 years I've tried a number of times to get with a good program. Slow start, best brands, drugstore brands, and have had problematic skin every time. It just gets gradually worse no matter what I do.

Until I finally wise up, lay off of almost all of it and moisturize only if it gets dry. The real fix? I good diet of non-processed foods, low GOOD fats, less salt and sugar and simple healthy foods. I feel great and my skin looks great now. Few if any wrinkles (hermetically sealed in my office I guess), and good skin for my old face! And by the way, I worse a minimum of makeup always.

Well I'm 74 and 8 yrs retired but I still have my daily skin care routine including face wash, exfoliate and I use peels several times a week, (microdelivery, Elemis) Sunday Riley Vit C, SPF and Retinol at night. I have several brands that I rotate and my skin looks pretty good for my age ! I don't wear makeup during the week unless I'm going out to dinner etc but I do wear makeup to church.

I get compliments, been told I look like I'm about 49 and I said thanks ! I'm thankful to the Lord that I'm still here and proud to say I'm 74 and taking care of my skin and body is important to me.
