Setting Spray Or Setting Powder?

Do you use either one? Or if you tried both which do you prefer? I was looking at the Givenchy setting powder but wondered if it is for mature skin. Would powder make skin look dry and get into wrinkles?

I use powder foundation a lot, along with powder highlighter, blush, eyeshadow. I find that using a spray helps it look more natural. I like WEN Replenishing Treatment Mist for setting my makeup.

I'm 69, with somewhat oily skin.

Setting spray.... it is light, moisturizing adds no weight to your skin and gives a natural look.

Powder can give dry and fake take. If you have oily skin than you should probably try powder to see if that helps.

I use both. I use a powder in my t-zone and lightly over the rest of my face. Use a setting spray to set and hold everything in place and it helps to take away that powdery look. All my powders are talc-free as I found powders that have talc to be very drying. Think the Givenchy powder mentioned has talc

I currently use a talc free setting powder if/where needed over foundation, then proceed to the rest of the makeup application. When I'm all done with my makeup I used a setting spread. I like the Make It Last by Milani. Right now, I'm using one from NYX. It's ok, but I'll go back to Milani when it's used up.

@hopi Which setting spray do you like?

I've never used one, not sure I feel the need, but, I've been curious about them; if I did I'd try a light spray. Tks.

ps. Funny my 9 y.o. granddaughter who LOVES Sephora and was making up with my makeup one day...asked if I had setting spray. I said, "No, I don't even get what they do..." without missing a beat, she went on to explain, very matter of factly, what they were for and why I need one! 🤣They "know it all."

a lot of people complaining about the reformulation of the Givenchy powder, apparently there is a shimmer to it now.

Nikki La Rose recommends it for dry , mature skin.

Chanel did a reformulation a couple of years ago , same thing, everybody was upset then too, especially Mel Thompson !

I personally use Setting and Finishing powders depending on the foundation I'm using. The NYX hd finishing powders are great for the price point, and I use Chanel in my arsenal as well..

I use both! If I feel I look "powdery", a quick spray with MAC Prep, Prime and Fix makes everything melt into my skin. All-Nighter does the same.

Ok. since we're talking powders. Know this has probably been talked about before but I'm confused - What is the difference between a setting powder and a finishing powder? Why would one want/need to use both? Do you apply one instead of the other or both? Applying both seems like it would be a lot of powder on one's face.

@JudyL you can do both, but usually a oily type skin does best with both. Setting powders are a bit more matte, lock down foundation better. Finishing is usually milled finer and provides more blurring.
Newer powders on the scene are combining both now. The O/S powder is a popular one along with the Laura Mercier ultra Blur. Then there's foundation powders to add into the mix lol

I love powder, I'd use Borax if they said it was the next greatest thing🤣🤣🤣

I use both. I spray after foundation and concealer. Then again after blush and bronzer. Then I will use a powder lightly. Sometimes I will spray a third time after powder but isn't really needed.

@Janey2 That's one of the setting powders I use along with Laura Mercier's Blurring Powder. Both are finely milled and if used with a large fluffy brush, I don't find any caking. I purchased the mini size of the Givenchy powders and other than the fragrance, I prefer that one.

I don't use a setting spray, but rather use a damp makeup sponge to go over any areas I feel needs setting.

Too young imo. At that age, I was still only putting on my mom's blue eye shadow, and playing with her Avon lipstick samples at home, and that was it. I wasn't costing my mom $100's at the drugstore for my own makeup collection!

But...such is 2024 life.

I don't use setting powder or setting spray. The only setting powder I have used was mineral veil and honestly didn't notice a benefit. I don't like applying lots of layers so I will only use with a noticeable benefit.

When I use a setting product I like a spray type. The reason is b/c a spray will set everything on your face including eye makeup plus setting sprays can add a bit of moisture (depending on brand/type) to an otherwise dry matte finish.

I'll use setting powder only where needed, then use my setting spray. I am in love with Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray.
