Not sure what this means...cheaper moisturizer is still moisturizer! Something seems to be missing here.

The following statement I took from the WP article. Might make sense now.

“The base ingredients in drugstore and luxury brand facial moisturizers are the same. The differences are additives and packaging,” says Michele Green, a cosmetic dermatologist in New York who spent five years as an industry consultant. Even so, she adds, “luxury brands do tend to be formulated with more potent, unique skin care ingredients.” But while the quality and amounts of the active ingredients may differ, it’s not enough to make a difference for most people. The exceptions, she says, are people who have a skin condition such as rosacea or eczema."

That WP article was a good read and informative.

I am finishing up a Dr. Denese night cream - think it is the Dream Cream. I really like it, but her packaging on some of her products seems so wasteful. Lots of hard and heavy plastic packaging. I like to use her daily serum. But I hate I can't tell how much is left, or really how much you got because it is so well hidden in the container.

This tube of GOLD BOND lotion cost less than $6. It's the best all-purpose moisturizer I've ever used and that's no exaggeration. The ingredients are good and it hydrates my skin for a very long time. I love it.

@SilleeMee I'm definitely going to try this the next time I need moisturizer...it'll be awhile, because I have a couple to use up first, but it's on my list!

@SilleeMee Tks for posting that. Makes sense. Kind of how I've felt for a long time. I also heard many years ago that the fancy packaging (that often breaks too soon in expensive cosmetics!) and marketing is most of what you are paying high prices for.

I have tried shifting more to drugstore cosmetics this year. I did go back to Dr. Denese in some products, just the dream cream and hydroshield, because I got good deals on her website and I'd tried other things and still liked hers better. But I don't consider her products "too break the bank" expensive...when you shop her sales.

But overall...I'll buy drugstore items when I find good ones, and lots of them are recommended. I do like Olay and Neutrogena products. Cera Ve is supposed to be good too...I've only ever tried their body lotion.

ITA ...... Rather than spending money on expensive moisturizers, use something "basic" and spend your money on the good SKIN CARE products.

@SilleeMee What's it feel like on? Heavy/thick? Silky/light?

That makes a difference to me. I've only ever tried Gold Bond hand and foot creams. They were thick and stiff...which...for hands/feet, I don't mind.

Or if you have oily sensitive skin--even old skin can be oily and sensitive--you can skip moisturizer alltogether.

I can use it occasionally, the lightest I can find and usually a lotion not a cream. Otherwise, my face breaks out. There probably aren't a lot of us but if you have issues, try giving your face a rest.

The GB Pure Moisture Lotion is a lightweight moisturizer. It spreads easily, not runny and it does not leave skin feeling tacky. After it drys down my skin feels silky soft and w/o any fragrance or shine. I use it on my face and body.

I've always used drugstore cosmetics, not actually knowing which of the pricier ones were worth the money. I'm sure it's fun and probably worth it to try and use high-end cosmetics, it doesn't interest me. Good for y'all who do so! I'm sure your skin looks very pretty. (I do go for facials occasionally for proper exfoliation, removal of "baddies.")

@Sooner Thank you. I'm not oily, very fair but redness, sensitive prone to everything. Mosurizer, moisturizer on and on is what people say yet it makes me flush.

It is very humid in South Florida and so I don't have dryness problems.

I only use Cerave Lotion but it seems when I don't use anything I do not get breakouts. Going to Dermatologist Friday finally and hope to find some answers. Maybe you are on to something here. In other words the less I use on face the better off I am.

@monicakm, I use several Tatcha. Like all companies the products are becoming more expensive. I really like the Rice Wash. Would like to find another comp. with similar ingredients but less expensive. Tried the Natrium . ( poor sp I'm just tired. ) It was just OK. Have you any suggestions? I also use the Miracle Cream by Tatcha. It is just OK Trying to use up what I have. Q hasn't had Tatcha program on in a while. Warched Beekman brothers. Interested but not ready to try. I love drugstore makeup and drugstore skincare! I've been using Olay 7 in 1 night firming cream for the past 7 years. Eucerin Q10 anti wrinkle night cream is another really great drugstore night cream. I have oily/combo skin so a little bit of this moistuizer is all I need.

The best savings is using what you buy and buying less. Really, how much difference does more make? A question everyone has to answer, and then what realistically can you afford? Price vs. value.
