NONABLATIVE LASER

I had this procedure a month ago and the derm's assistant called yesterday to see if I wanted to schedule the second appt. in the three recommended treatments.

I'm iffy since the first treatment took weeks to heal (red/swollen) when I was informed before having it after 3-4 days, I'd have no downtime. My skin is quite sensitive.

Anyone have these lasers and schedule the further laser appointments?

Yes, I've had six laser resurfacing treatments in a row. With each passing one my skin seemed to take less time to recover. It's the building of collagen that makes the skin more resilient and strong.

If your skin has completely healed then consider going back again. I think the second and third won't be like the first. Skin has been rejuvenated with more collagen so it can take it.

@Shanus The laser. My sister had something like this done to lighten age spots. I don't know much about what all can be done to improve the face.

There are different kinds of lasers used to treat various issues. Treating age spots is different from skin resurfacing/rejuvenation. These days some of the newer lasers are adjustable so they can be used to treat different things w/o having to switch to a different laser altogether.

@Shanus I'm on treatment number 3 tomorrow. Mine are spaced 2 weeks apart as I would like to get the downtime over with.

Did you have IPL? PDL? BBL procedures? I'm using IPL by Lumenis for redness and rosacea.

I'm sensitive too and I swelled up for 3 days. I suggest you sleep on 2 pillows the first 2 nights. I didn't and I was so swollen. And it got worse the second treatment. The IPL he uses has 22 different dials to treat what you need.

Tomorrow he will go for the redness one. It does take about 6 treatments for results. Show him the areas of your concern and make sure he hits it. I send him pictures every day of how I'm doing. He studied lasers in Switzerland for a year. Time will tell.

The collagen will continue to grow for many months down the line after your procedure. Just keep moisturizing. Ice is good too which I didn't use either and most important those extra pillows.

@SilleeMee One must remember you know I started with them early in life, early 40? But now at 70 skin is thinner and so it's more sensitive. He checked my skin a month ago and said my skin is thinning. They take this into consideration.

I would like to know the name of the machine he is using on you.

Yep that's what I'm using with the Lumenis fraxel. 22 different dials. He will change it tomorrow. First was laser with blue light to get rid of pimples from actinic rosacea. How this came back I'll never know. Possible the stress and illness I suffered.

All I know is forget "cool peel". It did hardly anything and only the real painful CO2 laser will do what is promised. I wish I never did it. Big mistake.

Skin is smoother, my friends do see it and I see a pretty clean lineless face but nah.....never again with that. Instead I got rosacea?

Oh I think he will do the YAG tomorrow. That hits the redness, port wine stains so it's got to be for me. Tatoo removal too?

The basic fundamentals of any laser device is that it uses heat to perform tasks. It's the heat which can thin the skin by melting away the fat content found in the skin. That's why I haven't been back for a second round of rejuvenation. Once the fat is gone, it's gone.

Yes @SilleeMee there are different depths for each dial on the IPL.

Let's say rosacea and capillary redness. The very sensitive type of fair light skinned people. That's a different depth.

The lasers today are very sophisticated and different from when we used them. A good operator will know exactly how to adjust it.

As far as me looking good you remember my pictures when I got home from last year. You have seen my pictures and even you commented on how I look younger. And lasers can be used to improve at any age if the operator of machine knows what they are doing and how much force.

Do not worry about age done right.

But it wears off at several years like a facelift. Even those go for 7 years. I don't know they say 10 but I don't believe it as I've seen them on others.

Some of us just want to look rejuvenated and age gracefully with a little help without a facelift.

I always liked thermage RF on my neck. I've read another thumbs down for Ultherapy device. I don't know if they even use thermage anymore.

and @SilleeMee you will laugh as I use drugstore Cerave for mosturizer and cleanser, vaseline for lips. Quite simple but I save up for the rest.

My whole makeup sits in one ziplock sandwich bag. I like it so I can toss and get a fresh one every 2 weeks. Plus one does not have to dig for a lip pencil or eyebrow pencil as it is see through. Ok, I'm going off the topic now, sorry......

I don't spend much on cosmetics or skincare products. The most I spend is on laser treatments for my redness but that's only done about every two maybe three years depending on how bad it gets. The laser treatments I've done in the past were for hair removal, brown spot removal and the 'laser-lift' skin rejuvenation where my eyes and neck were treated also. Now I just do microneedling and with that there is no worries about fat loss or thinning skin. I also use in-home laser devices which have helped maintain firmess and smoothness. No one believes me when I tell them I'm 69. But I think a lot of it has to do with my AI disease, scleroderma, where that has tightened my skin all over my face and body plus I'm Asian...all of that makes me look younger than my years.

Yes @SilleeMee your skin tone makes a huge difference being of Asian descent. I think the auto immunne disease could have something to do with it as well.

I am not sure...I have had Raynaud's for 30 or more years but it is lately picking up when a a/c vent hits me in this 100 degree weather. I went to one Doctor and he said do you have Lupus? I said no, but did think about it after that conversation and called my primary about it. He did not think so but forgot to mention I have Raynauds.

I have an appointment in less than 8 weeks and he will test me for Lupus antibodies along with all the other blood work to find out what is going on. Could this be a flare up? My veins have collapsed from too much blood draw in 21-22. I have to go to a Phlebotomist in the hospital now for blood draw. I mentioned Quest nor Labcorp can find a vein before. They are now in my knuckle can you believe? And so I can't like others just go for blood draws all the time.

I understand your situation. Life is hard indeed.

I have severe osteoporosis and with that comes thinning bones including the facial bones, particularly the jawbone. Just normal aging causes bones to thin so our faces become 'skeletal' in appearance. Lower face sinks in and cheek bones get smaller due to shrinking bones. I can see why people get implants to help fill out the face. A chin implant is something I've considered b/c I've lost a lot of jaw definition from the osteoporosis.

@SilleeMee I have high cheek bones and am thin but focus on lower jawline as you? And I'm thin. But from all these treatments it's held up so far. I'm using RHA 4 but will tell him tomorrow to go near the jaw line, putting it on another setting.

You know I'm tallish....well shrunk, now. lol. But to define your jawline I think a chin implant could be great and you would not ever need a filler again.

You can also get a nose job with filler today. Can you believe this? I couldn't believe it but thats dumb as it is costly down the road. So a little chin implant will be easy with a few stitches done in office today.

Oh you know people always make fun of Lisa Rinna's very large lips. Well for everyone she had "silicone" shot in and they are for life. You cannot remove them. That was silicone then. It's like cement. I've seen this in person and know what it is. Thats a tragedy.

This is now 2024. All filler's except for that "5 year bellafill" or "sculptra" cannot be reversed. (and silicone of course too)

So if they like the look it's their problem as it can easly be removed immediately. It's just water for pete's sake. Hylauronic acid. I don't understand why one does not remove too much if necessary. PS. she was young, ther were no other choices unfortunately.

Yes @Shanus It's a fraxel laser. You will need more treatments. Donot be afraid of this.

They all say "no downtime" but are wrong and it's not true ever. Schedule to be home for 2,3, 4 to 5 days. Everyone is different.

Be patient. Sometimes you have to trust the process.

@Pink123 All of which is why I'm leaving well enough alone and not having more lasers. I've had some visible firming (at least to my eye) and the downtime was worse than the actual laser experience even with the numbing cream.

I think all of you lovely ladies are so brave to get these treatments! I would be terrified to do these things. Not to mention, I have so many other issues with my skin that I don't think anybody would even consider any of these treatments for me. I certainly wish all of you speedy recovery and wonderful results!

I just got home from my third treatment and next treatment will be a month from now. PS told me next month would be harder the hardest session so I'm catching a break. I will clear a week the first week of August for more downtime.

Today he used the dial for "redness". I am getting better, I saw the pictures from a month ago when I started and so my skin is returning to normalcy. I do clearly see it improvement.

Tonight I will sleep with 2 pillows. It helps a lot. But today was redness targeting (aka v-beam like) @SilleeMee 2 weeks ago I got very swollen because he went way deep underneath the skin to catch the capillaries.

One can use laser's into their 80's. I do not believe that this will cause one to stop using these treatments. They thicken the skin but only have a shelf life of a certain amount of years.

I have used them since 40's. The PA who straightened out my lips as well asked me if I had a face lift because I looked so young. I said no, never. Ony lasers for a very long time. See? I'm resting my case. lol.

@Shanus I'm tighter too and don't think I will need any jawline filler for quite a while, YAY. That saves money!

I will get in to you next post.
