Does anyone have suggestions for a good nail polish for natural nails? I have tried OPI, Londontown and Essie. None seem to stay on very long. TIA!

I have long, strong natural nails, am 71, have tried every brand out there and I still cant say any wear longer than others. I buy what colors I like regardless of brand. I often buy Zoya and Deb Lippmann. Still have a ton of Essie and OPI in my stash. Londontown didnt stay on any better either.

I do my own nails and I've used all the same brands you mentioned. I need to redo about every week or 10 days. I use a base coat, two color coats and a top coat.

Also, I wear gloves if I'm doing dishes or working in the garden.

How long does yours last?

I use Perfect Formula and it lasts for 7-10 days. It works for me.

When I was using nail polish I used the above brands and eventually switched to Sally Handsom, not sure I spelt it correctly.

You need to start with a very good base, I applied it very thinly twice, let each coat dry thoroughly. Then I applied colored polish, preferably the same brand. Sally makes a nail strengthening clear base, start with that.

Last coat should be a top coat.

@Patriot3 Try a different topcoat. If necessary put on two coats of the topcoat. Wear gloves when doing dishes. If you garden make sure you wear gloves. If nothing works wear clear or sheer polish.

It's not about the brand, it's the application that makes a difference. Start with a base coat and end with a top coat that you wrap over the top of the nail.

I use OPI, Essie and Sally Hanson. I'm not good with gloves for dish washing or garden. I still need to either add one color coat or redo on about day 5 or 6. I sometimes think I have a bad base coat or top coat, because sometimes it will chip off. (Vs, just showing wear). I do try to re do every six days, if I add one color coat, I may get to extend it a few more days. I get pedicure about every two months, but I always do my hands.

I use Sally Hansen Insta Dry, and then follow-up with Sally Hansen clear Xtreme Wear. Lasts for days. I also wear gloves washing dishes and gardening.

Thanks, ladies. I'm 85 and I have very strong nails and yes, I wear gloves when doing heavy work. Maybe I need to try a different base/top coat. I do my own nails. Thanks!!

I'm boring as heck, French manicure 90% of the time and she uses a gel polish. If feeling 'frisky' - like next week - she will put something red, white and blue on one nail or a star . . . I've been going to the same gal for the same manicure for probably 15 years.

A gel mani is quite different than using regular polish, gels will last a lot longer but will not keep natural nails in good shape, causes damage to the nails, especially the removal process. I am not willing for that to happen.

I have grown out my nails from the gel polish impulse that I agreed to a few months ago. Sure they looked good for about twelve days. At that point they were too long for my taste and drove me nuts. After removal I saw the damage. No amount of treatment products fixes it. Only time and regular trimming off the damaged part as it grows out.

needless to say I do my own nails now. Various polish brands- Londontown is a fave. Their "gel topcoat" in the black bottle gives me the longest chip free manis. Also a fan of Deborah Lippman polish and her Hard Rock clear strengthener.

I love Londontown and it stays longest on me. I also use Deb Lippman. I find any Londontown stays on longer if I use Londontown Ridge Filler first and their Diamond Shine Top Coat. Absolutely love that top coat and use it over everything! It adds a tiny bit of sparkle.

I also clean my nails with polish remover before I polish my natural nails.

My 2 fave top coats are Lippmann Addicted to Speed and Poshe, both dry very quick with a glossy, cushiony feel. I dont like Seche Vite, does not dry fast enough or provide the cushiony feel. I bought the Londontown Diamond Shine top coat, major disappointment and pricey too, the diamonds in there dont even show up.

@Patriot3 I use OPI and always put on a primer and topcoat (fast dry Seche Vite). This brand along with Essie seem to stay on well.

The brand that I get the longest wear from is ILNP (ILNP dot com). Also can be found on Amazon. I used to have beautiful, long, strong nails - but not anymore. I don't know why but it makes me sad!

Someone else mentioned that the brand of polish doesn't matter for long wear - it's the application. While application (good base coat and good top coat) is important, as I said, I get the longest wear from ILNP, followed by Zoya. I used to use OPI, Revlon, Sinful Colors, they no longer last more than a day.

Londontown stays the longest on me, over a week...however it is verrrrry drying on my nail beds...perhaps that's why it lasts longer.

My nails look very dried out, and flakey..

I'll still use it because it lasts the longest of everything I've tried. I also like Essie gel polish, no light needed to cure, and removes with regular remover.

I use a nail buffer to slightly remove an ultra-thin layer of the nail plate which is what a buffer is suppose to do. When you do that it creates a nail surface where polishes can adhere to better and stay on longer. In other words, if the surface of a bare nail is too smooth then polish will not last long on it.

LONDONTOWN is the best imo. Their Nail Veils are sheer but buildable and they contain good-for-your-nails ingredients.
