Silver & Grey Hair Clarifier?

Any users of hair clarifier shampoos that will really take out yellowing streaks of my white hair? I have bought and tried ones unsuccessfully from drug stores. I currently use Jhirmack Silver Brightening (purple) but, it doesn't work. Hair cuts are the only thing that eventually removes yellowed streaks. There are Ulta and Sally stores in my area besides department stores and common drugs stores, Walmart, and Target. Please let me know if you have had success with a product you recommend.

I have the same issue. I think "old growth" stays yellow no matter what you do. The part that is cut more frequently {the shorter lengths} is not yellow. I think only a lightening, bleaching process would work.

@Villagesbabe .............There is nothing that will take out the yellow in your hair now. A hair cut is the only thing that will work for that. But to keep your new growth from yellowing use Shiny Silver shampoo and conditioner. I have used it for years and it works really well.

You can get it at Sally's Beauty Supply or Amazon.

I use Shimmer Lights from Sally's. I have tried everything and that seems to work best for me. Of all the expensive brands I have tried, none came close.

I have salt and pepper hair . I have been using Just Nutrtive Gray hair shampoo and conditioner . I really like it . It is not purple or blue ( I found them a bit drying ) . This has really brightened my hair and made it shiny . They have their own website . They are cruelty free too .

I believe it's a purple bottle but by Clairol and indeed is "shimmer lights". (of course all salons have some sort of purple tone down yellow rinse shampoo, which kerastase is one but I still take mine when I'm visiting for some reason.

I color high lift my hair to platinum every 5 weeks and sometimes it get's that yellow tinge to it as well, ugh. I still have some light ash brown hair.

First you shampoo with regular whatever you use and on second wash use the shimmer lights. But not too long, as it will turn your hair more to a gray and quick. (good news it will come out with another wash as it is just a rinse).

It is inexpensive, helps when necessary.

If you don't want to get all spendy give John Frieda Shimmering Silver products a try. They also make a Violet Crush for Blondes that might work, too.

Their color depositing shampoos and conditioners are quite good.

I agree Bella Spirit Inigo by Wen is the absolute best. I have been using it since it first aired. My Silver Streaks have never looked shinier and healthier and smoother since using it.
I won't ve without it. I have gotten more compliments on my hair than I can count.

@Villagesbabe I have used two shampoo/conditioner combos that I like to keep my gray hair from being yellow.

This is the one I like the best, from Amazon. The other is also from Amazon, and is Pura D'Or. I am using this now, and once I use it up will probably go back to the Luseta.

When I used the Wen Indigo it turned my hair blue. I have a large, large bottle full of it sitting in my shower unused. I cannot recommend it for gray hair. Unless you want blue hair.

I wish I had answers for you. The only reason I never have this issue is because I have an ultra short pixie that is trimmed every 4 weeks.

Try diluting the "purple" shampoo with your regular brand. It takes a couple experiments to get the right mix...

I purchased the OLAPLEX purple shampoo....expensive, but only need it in the summer when my "silvers" are in the sun without my hat. I only leave it on for 3 minutes or my Grandma's purple hair in the mirror!!!

***Always using a heat protectant also keeps yellow (sometimes burned hair) away.

I mix 1/8 cup of hair conditioner with a 1/8 cup of hydrogen peroxide. Apply to hair and cover with a shower cap for 20 minutes. When time is up, rinse hair well. This works for me. We have a swimming pool so I'm in the water all summer long.

You might want to try alternating your purple shampoo with one that's clarifying and chelating, in case it's the mineral content in your water that's contributing to the yellowing.

Two good ones are Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three and Ultra Swim.

A citric acid rinse would also chelate.

I have been platinum for years and am beyond the Maintenance, cost, and harshness on my hair, along with fighting the yellow I have decided to embrace a darker color.

Many things play into the yellow. Minerals in the water and heat are the worst offer offenders. I saw a video and they said it's like a toaster. You put the bread in and it toasts and basically what heat does to your hair.

Many times yellowing of white or gray hair is caused by scorching products on your hair. For instance, you use a curling iron on hair that has hair spray or another products on it.

The heat from the iron scorches and yellows your hair. Sometimes hard water will cause a buildup of minerals that makes the hair yellow.

Smoking or being around people who smoke will stain your hair.

And finally, some medications will turn your hair yellow.

You can buy a product called aloe rid. It comes in many different types of delivery...gels to shampoos.

It will remove any type of chemicals that have yellowed your hair, but if your hair is scorched, it is permanently stained.

I suggest Fanci-full temporary rinses to cover up the yellow. It comes in many shade of white and silver. Silver Lining is a great color to cover yellowing.

would not the combination of a strong hydrogen peroxide, strong enough to have any pore-opening effect on the hair, mixed with chlorine in a swimming pool, not tend to make your hair "greenish?" That happened to me when I used hair color that required hydrogen peroxide and went swimming.
