Minimum Viable Makeup

In the software biz, we have a concept known as Minimum Viable Product, which means tech with the minimum necessary requirements for use.

So, it got me to thinking:

What is your Minimum Viable Makeup (MVM)? What is the least amount of makeup you wear that still makes you feel like yourself?

After skincare and sunscreen, mine is:

Loose translucent powder
White sparkly power for the inner eye corner
Blush/bronzer Two in one
Lip tint/ lipstick
Lip gloss

What's your MVM?

Mine are: IT CC Glow or light foundation, brows, mascara, liner on lower lash line, blush, bronzer, lip gloss or lipstick with lip liner. Geez, guess that's about everything isn't it? Not very minimal. HAHA

For me, it depends on the season. Spring thru fall, if I have a tan, I can get by with blush, mascara, and something on my lips. Fall thru spring, I'd have to add cc cream or foundation.

After cleansing and a moisturizer; I use foundation. I use Doll 10 TCE because I get good coverage but it's sheer and a tiny dot on the brush does my whole face. I use a dusting of Laura Geller baked bronzer. A lot of brown mascara. Lip color. I have many lipsticks and glosses.

MVP for me is nothing. That's what I wear 99% of the time and I go everywhere that way. At most I'll color my brows.

If I feel like a minimal makeup look is needed like when I meet friends for lunch, then it's:

a light foundation - Fenty is good

Benefit Gimme Brow & Fluff up Brow wax

neutral light eyeshadow with a slightly darker color in crease

eyeliner pencil

mascara

blush

lip gloss

A lot of a minimal LOOK has to do with how it's applied, not the number of products.

I go full-on glam for church, not because I feel I need to, but because i enjoy it. Many of the people I know from church I'll run into when bare-faced, so it's not like I NEED to wear makeup for them. And since our church has merged with the college age kids church, dress is much more casual. I'm not a fan of the baseball caps though. I still consider that inappropriate.

I do Bobbi Brown's 5 minute face most days:

Skincare/SPF

Tinted SPF or tinted moisturizer

Mascara (my glasses mean no other eye makeup needed)

Blush

Lip Gloss

For full face if going to work or out at night:

I add concealer, maybe stick foundation (Westman Atelier), Givenchy Prime Libre setting powder (purchased the mini at the last Sephora sale and most of it still left...use so little), eyeliner (Urban Decay 24/7 navy, charcoal or dark brown as a tightline), lip liner and maybe lipstick under the gloss.

I'm always very minimal with makeup.

For me it's eye makeup: shadow, mascara and light brow. Almost always eye liner too, I am light skinned with gray/blue eyes, light hair and light lashes, Never wear lip color due to dryness and rarely blush.

My minimum for going out to run a quick errand would be tinted moisturizer & mascara. I have gone out a few times completely makeup free and wore my sunglasses in the store. 🥴

I don't go out without either one.

I very seldom wear make up. I never felt I needed to, even though I am a cosmetologist and have made up clients for years.

Unless I had a blemish to cover, it has never been necessary.

Quite minimalist. I need to do more, however, most days I don't.

I'm with @Icegoddess nothing for me mostly but sunscreen (sometimes tinted) and lip balm. If I am feeling self conscious, eyebrow powder, maybe strategically placed blush/bronzer, next lip color, next eye liner, mascara. This is the priority depending on how much time I am willing to take to do this, and then remove. I don't like feeling make-up on my face.

Sorry if some think off-topic, but I have a question that will help me think about my MVP routine.

@monicakm If I may ask you as our resident make-up expert (IMO). I have never worn false eyelashes. I have natural ones, but they are straight out and often not noticeable, and curling does not last. I bought a perm kit, but haven't tried it! Does wearing false eyelashes require mascara? I would think it does, so that the falsies and natural look as one. I hate mascara because I feel eyelashes come off when I remove it, but lashes do frame the eyes so well, it would be good for them to be seen.

Hope you see the Q @monicakm! Happy to read answers from anyone who wants to weigh in.

I would also be interested to read about eyelash perms, if anyone wants to write about this.

@Carmie Totally agree with the earrings. Feel naked without them!
