One and Done Eyeshadows

Do you think the trend from elaborate eye looks are now leaning towards one and done? That would be great for me as I don't have the skills for an elaborate look. What colors do you think are good for one product eye looks, what type of shadow do you like for it powder, cream, shadow sticks, etc? Can you recommend some of your favorite brands (moderate and drugstore) and colors?

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing but lately I've been using Laura Geller's liquid eyeshadow. It comes in a tube and the name has the word "swipe" in it. The color I use is Cocoa. I just blend it in and I'm done with eye color. I add liner and mascara, of course, but I don't add any other colors to my lid.

I have been using Revlon Colorstay Crème Eye Shadow in the shade Praline. I really like it. As a 63 year old woman, I think it's just enough. I love makeup and never leave the house without a full face of makeup, but I definitely feel like it needs to be more understated at this stage of life. I don't like a heavily made up eye, for example. It just looks aging to me. I no longer use eyeliner for the same reason. The Revlon Colorstay shadow in Praline is neutral but has a bit of shimmer.

If I'm going out somewhere that it matters, I'll still do the three colors and highlight under the brow. When it doesn't matter so much, it's something much quicker on the lid, like a taupe shade, and that's it. Sometimes, instead of the taupe I'll just do a swipe of highlighter on my lid.

For me I still use eyeliner but it's no longer a deep black. I use a medium brown instead.

I also like using a taupe shadow on the outer edges of my eyes and in the crease. I'll add a dab of highlighter in the center of my lid (to brighten up the eye) and maybe a bit under the brow.

So I use two colors and I'm done....color & highlighter

I can't do a one and done eyeshadow. If I put a darker eyeshadow on my lid, it looks odd. I like, at the very least, a light shadow on the lid which I might apply all over, and then a darker shade in the crease. The darker shade might be a taupe or something like that for a natural look. IMO, if I just put a light shadow all over, I might as well not even bother.

I like Stila Shimmer & Glow and Glitter & Go shadows in varying shades of pink, and a neutral that are liquid.🥰 My faves are Tulip Twinkle and Rockin' Rose.👍

I only use two eyeshadows at a time. One neutral all over my lid. Sometimes it may have a little shine to it. Then i decide if im wearing cool tone clothing or warm and use a cool tone from pink or purple family to receed my hooded lids or warm tone from rust or brown family. I blend well.

My everyday eye look is a one and done. I love Dr Perricone no makeup liquid eye shadow in a medium beige and also Nudestix all over face color in Naughty n Spice. When I wear the latter I also use it on my lips. I have a large lower lid (lash line to crease) and that is where I smudge it (first with my finger and then I blend with a tiny sponge). I just wear a translucent powder from crease to eyebrow.

@Jordan2 I've never cared for elaborate eye shadow looks. That said, I also don't think I've ever used just one color.

What goes under my brow is always different than what goes on my lid. I usually have 2 shades on my lid, blended so there is no defining line. I like my eye looks to be a bit subtle rather than startling. i use powders, mostly pressed.

I like Clinique duo's. Have tried drugstore but can't find a good comparison to Clinique. I tend to lean towards a very light color and a mid-tone as they go with everything. Right now my go to color is Ivory Bisque/Bronze Satin. Both these colors are very soft yet the bronze satin gives just enough contrast.

On t.v. I still see a lot very heavily made-up eyes, lots of different eye shadows, liners, lashes - the works. In real life, I see mostly very young woman with this look. Not so much with women who are a bit older. I rarely use eye shadow but when I do, it is a one and done thing! I currently have a product by Revolution which I got at the drug store and the color I bought was Fancy Champagne. It's a roll-up stick which is a little bit creamy but stays pretty well.

I only use neutrals now---am over elaborate colors and have been for years now. My go to is Urban Decay Naked basics, the first set--it has 6 shadows from very light to dark. It covers the tea stains on my lids and the dark purple in the nose corner of my eyes. Is about $35 --now there is a basics 2 that looks to be the same colors only new names for each. Am almost 70 now if that helps any. They are powder too.
