So I've been doing a lot of reading lately on using the extra virgin coconut oil as a hair treatment. Wanted to see if any of my fellow Wenners has tried it? If so, did you like it? How did it compare to the remoist? Oils? I really want to give it a try and wanted opinions of others who have tried it already.

Thanks!

My mom used it on me as a little girl as a deep conditioner and still to this day I use it faithfully. I know some have issues getting it out with WEN but I haven't had that issue. I apply it to dry hair, sectioning my hair and applying it in sections, concentrating it on the ends. I warm a little in my hands then comb through with my fingers on each section. I think if you use too much it may be harder to get out with WEN so you have to play with it and figure out what is the right amount for your hair. I leave it on overnight or for a few hours in the day and then wash out with my WEN.

I think the coconut oil is the main reason why I've had good hair all my life (well, with the exception of my recent issues). I definitely like it better than the WEN oils for moisture (what my hair needs) because the wen oils don't really help my hair with moisture like it does for others. I am not sure why. I really like the remoist but coconut oil will always be a mainstay in my hair care routine.

I use organic virgin coconut oil as a pre-wash scalp and hair treatment and I think it is fantastic. It is just as good if not sometimes better than the WEN oils for me. It really depends on the condition of my hair and scalp that determines if I use the coconut oil by itself or many times I mix it with the WEN oils. It is best for me for when I experience some dry scalp issues from time to time. I cannot compare coconut oil to Remoist as I do not use the two products in the same manner. Again, I use the coconut oil for pre-wash treatments and the Remoist as a deep condition after cleansing. I also add in a little coconut oil as part of my leave-ins, too. Overall I highly recommend it. Good luck!

I used pure (not extra virgin) oils to seal moisture in my hair. Coconut oil was effective, but it wasn't one of my favorites.

I had better results using silicone serums (ie, hair polishers, glossing serums, etc.) and I never went back to oils. The results: better moisture retention, no single strand knots, no frizz and great shine.

In regards to using extra virgin coconut oil versus pure coconut oil , taste is the only difference. There's no reason to use a more expensive version for the same results.

I would just recommend making sure it is not refined or chemically processed in anyway (unbleached, undeodorized). I personally use Nutiva extra virgin organic coconut oil because it is not processed, is organic, unrefined and the coconut scent is very light and natural. I've smelled others that smelled off. Not sure why because if it is unrefined and unbleached, etc, it should smell like a coconut. I get a big tub of it for cheap at costco but you can find it online for cheap at many other places.

I also use coconut oil as a pre wash treatment. I'll use the wen TT oil on my scalp and then the coconut oil on my ends. I'll wear it in a bun and wash the next day. I don't have an issue getting it out at all with wen.. I buy a giant jug of organic extra virgin coconut oil at Costco for $15 that lasts me forever

Thanks Honny....I've read that the extra virgin coconut oil is the best version when using as a hair treatment but if it produces that same results maybe I'll experiment with both.

I use (and always have used) organic extra virgin.

Everything I have read highly recommends this version of coconut oil. Does the brand matter much?

Honestly, I don't think brand matters as much.

Lol we posted at the same tome

I'll use the wen TT oil on my scalp and then the coconut oil on my ends. I'll wear it in a bun and wash the next day. I don't have an issue getting it out at all with wen.. I buy a giant jug of organic extra virgin coconut oil at Costco for $15 that lasts me forever

That's a good way to use the wen oils and coconut together....I'll have to see if BJs has some next time I go.

What truly matters is how the coconut milk/oil is extracted and processed. Certain methods promise that less filtering retains the most natural protein and anti-oxidants levels found in coconuts. I prefer the Tropical Traditions brand of coconut oil products. They may seem a bit pricier than other brands but I think their products are great. If you sign up for their email notifications they have good sales on their products almost weekly. I usually just wait until their Coconut Oil for Hair Treatment goes on sale and then I stock up! They also have body products with coconut oil too. Great stuff!

I have the rms beauty raw coconut cream- you can use it as cleanser, make-up remover and moisturizer. I do use it sometimes in my hair but mostly the WEN oils do the trick.

I have never tried any other coconut oil.
