Husbands helping me wash my hair

I am recovering from a broken wrist and needed my husbands help in washing my hair. Well not an easy feat, I have long thick hair. Lucky for the showr chair. It was a bit of a nightmare to say the least but we got it done, now on to drying it. Wish me luck

It may have been easier and a marriage-saver to have gone to a salon and had your hair washed and dried.

@I am still oxox I feel for you. My DD had shoulder surgery, and asked me to wash her hair over the sink. A nightmare! Her hair is down to the middle of her back. I didn't do a good job. Give your hubby a big kiss.

Goodness, I had to do that for my DD when she had shoulder surgery. Her hair is super thick and curly and she wears it straight. It was a really long, tiring process washing, rinsing, blow drying and straightening her hair. Did I mention she's a perfectionist and I have an ultra short pixie, lol.

@SportyShorty07 It's been that long since college. She has 3 children, and it takes her at least an hour for her to shower, dry her hair and do her face. I just don't get it. It takes me 15 minutes, start to finish. Her shoulder is so great. She had an injury from high school that caused her shoulder to slip out of the socket sometimes. So painful. She had to do the ice bath, etc. for a week or two and was so afraid of having her shoulder go out again. I was a terrible hairdresser. She couldn't move her arm, so it was frustrating to try to get her over the sink. It took a half hour and didn't end satisfactorily. If it would have been warm weather, we could have gone outside. Wish I'd have known about those wash cloths that QVC offers.

@monicakm I doubt I would be able to do that, I have issues with my legs and would not be able to bend over the tub like that, but thanks for the idea

If there is a next time, perhaps you can think of a different washing position. I wash my hair by bending over my bathtub. He could either stand next to you or sit on the shower chair while you are bent over the tub. The last scenario sounds best. SO sorry you broke your wrist

@PA Mom-mom Wow, that's some long hair! I have thick wavy hair that's a few inches past my shoulders and I put it in a turbie twist and then I blow it out with a hair dryer and a revlon hot air brush- it takes about 30 minutes to blow dry my hair if I dry most of it with the turbie twist for an hour. I can imagine it would've been difficult to wash and style her hair for her especially since her shoulder was such an issue and slipped out of its socket before. You did an A+ for effort great job in washing her hair though ! I remember when I broke my wrist in middle school, my lovely Mom washed my hair and she combed my hair.

@Puggywuggy I bet your pixie cut looks great! It certainly was a labor of love for you to wash, rinse, blow dry and straighten your DD's curly hair after her shoulder surgery! A+ Mommy score to you .

@Puggywuggy Curly hair is such a pretty hair type and definitely takes a while to master in terms of rocking the curl or straightening it. The fact that you did all that for your DD is really sweet ! I imagine that there was a lot of laughing and joking around while you were doing her hair. Also, I like your profile name- its super cute!

This is also the time for the hairdresser to cut that hair so it's easier to manage. Hair grows out, so no big deal.

Without full use of your wrist, until it completely heals, it's going to be a real hassle.

First and foremost, I wish you a speedy recovery. I have recently been in your shoes, and I am on week twelve of my healing process of a broken radius on my left arm.

I was able to wash my own hair in the shower, but couldn't hold the blow dryer and the round brush. Boy, as Kachina said, it was a test on the two of us! I was trying to teach my DH how to style my curls and he was doing the best he could. I didn't want to leave the house because my hair will get frizzy if not managed correctly. I was one happy camper when I could do it myself!

I'm a very practical person .... and am also painfully aware how difficult self-care can be when you're sick or healing from a surgery or an injury.

I'm really curious .... why not have your hair cut until this is all over? That would make everyone's lives easier.

Several years ago, I had neck fusion surgery and was restricted to using a hard collar 23 hrs. on. 1 hr. off. I also couldn't raise my arms above my head. When I'd shower, I could manange to get my hair washed, but blow drying and styling was out of the question. I had to rely on my DH. He did his best, but it was nothing like how I did it. I appreciated his efforts anyway.

With my recent surgery, I couldn't get in the shower for a few days so I used SCRUBZZ to clean myself. I also discovered SCRUBZZ No Rinse Shampoo Caps. You might give them a try, @I am still oxox. In a pinch, they work pretty good.

@DrakesMomma Yes, after my last hospital stay I could not wash my own hair or bend over bathtub so my husband did it over the kitchen sink. It really has a powerful sprayer so that helped out, too. Since I wear wigs, I just let it dry naturally.
